I picked up this printed Emirates route map at the recent Flight Centre Expo in Sydney. Looks like they have an interesting take on world geography ... amongst others:
1. London is now in France and takes the place of Paris
2. New York is now in the middle of the Atlantic
3. Melbourne is now in Tasmania ...
Shows what you can do if you accidentally put a layer a few pixels wrong!

It looks all the locations have been shifted south a bit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does Hong Kong seem a bit out of place also?

You are wrong, of course!
CLK is on Lan Tau Island which lies a few hundred miles south of HKG, that's why the train to downtown Hong Kong Island needs 2h 17mins.

Yes Hong Kong should be located exactly north on the coast of China plus New York City seems to have floated out to sea...

They had to cut a few corners in order to pay for all the new planes that they ordered. So they went to Bob's discount house of cartography for their route map.
Bob's nerves were shot to hell in the aftermath of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia break-ups. He hasn't been the same since.

With this mixup and a lot of other misplacements of cities in mind:
Is EK joining FR in re-naming airports ? Like "Fly into Melbourne and land in Tasmania - it´s only a short drive to downtown"
Serious: While some minor misplacements are tolerable, that bit of work surely is unworthy of EK ! Hopefully it will not stay around for too long !

Everything is simply a little south of where it shoud be. I suspect this is just lazy layer work in a graphics app. I boldy predict it will be at least two weeks till we get another "Airline X has a shoddy map" thread.
'fraid not! The Cabo Verde islands are off the coast from Dakar, Senegal, which is on the Cabo Verde - "Green Cape" in English.
Lagos, in this case, has moved to São Tomé and Principe, an independent country, or Bioko, an island belonging to Equatorial Guinea and home to that country's capital, Malabo.

I could also order a photo print of an EK airliner and burn it... you know, like some gentlemen in Egypt did with photographs of the al-Salam Boccaccio.

Well, I keep renaming countries. At least I got one right, not like EK . Thanks Achim.

Maybe they should cancel all these routes and put all their planes on a new route to Copenhagen. Considering the later events they should know where Denmark is on the map.

I'm sure Tasmanians would love that ...

Well they printed boxloads of it for the shows here in Oz, so far only Melbourne and Sydney so far, but thousands would have been in public hands by now, what's worse, it's [b]printed]/b], not just on the net. (The other side of the print are lovely seat maps for both 773ER and 345)
Perhaps someone from EK will read it and pull it from the upcoming shows. I'll ask if people in Brisbane this weekend manages to get a copy ...
