Well, just got back. We cut the trip a day short but it was a great time.
I had a ski coat, snowboard pants, wrist protecting gloves and thermals on and rented a board from a palce near home.
We spent all day yesterday on the 'bunny' novice slopes after getting a lesson early in the morning. Little kids were picking it up real quick, but I obseved and got one VERY important tip watching the kids: dont be afraid to fall.
wifey did great on skis after not having been on a slope in 15 years.
this was my first time ever on a snow covered mountain, let alone a ski slope.
Then my wife, on skis, suggested we try a longer, novice slope. Well, thankfully I came down only with a bruised ego! Ouch! I mean, the true novice run was very long but narrow. And all I really knew how to do was the side to side runs and going straight down, gaining speed, freaked me out since I really wanted too good at stopping yet! Isnt that weird? I LOVE speed, did 82 mph most of the way home, yet was too scared to let loose the throotle on the snowboard.
Wiped out on my butt, wrists, back, dude, you name it. But it was FUN.
needless to say, I had to go back to the bunny sope. after all, I hadn't yet been able to do that slope without a single fall.
So I set a small goal: do the bunny slope 3 times in a row without falling. Well, I finally did it.
Then I figured I'd take a lesson the next day and hone more skills down but upon awakenin gand hitting hte slopes, it was PACKED! So between the suddern weekend volume on the slopes and the impending snow storm headed for NY, we cut the trip down and headed home.
So there it is. I am psyched to get back on the board and keep trying though!

Oh and one other question....
Any advice on how to get ready next time. Every muscle seems so sore! Is there a way to condition one's self for snowboarding?

Yeah.....jump off the roof of your house and execute a PLF about 20 times per day, along with a regular workout routine and you'll toughen up the old bod for the next trip!
