Slider Shelley Rudman raced to a silver medal - Britain's first at the 2006 Winter Olympics - in the women's Olympic skeleton on Thursday.

Well done to her community for funding her!

Watched it live, her second slide was awesome thought she might of snatched the gold with it but the Swiss girl was too far ahead. We don't too much to cheer in the Winter Olympics so congrats to her and her community for getting her there.

She was funded mostly by her local pub, that's quite an achievement to get where she has.

Yeah, I also saw this live on the BBC earlier this evening. For a nation of sporting underacheivers, a silver medal was great and all the more sweeter given that nothing better than a top 10 finish was expected of Shelley and would have been considered a personal success for her.

Well done, Shelley!

She looks like she could suck a golf ball through a garden hose.
