Recently (actually last night), I caught a snippet of Jay Leno with Bill Maher, who happens to be quite humorous i might say, in the middle of a bird flu discussion. According to Bill, it's just another fear ploy by the government and the pharmacutical companies. He said that really all flu come from birds. So this got me wondering, how is bird flu (or the threat of it) affecting you? or does it not? i'd imagine members in the asian/pacific rim must be hearing alot more of it than we are, even ever since pres. Bush started talking about it.

Bird flu is no more dangerous than regular flu. Either "could" mutate to a type that is extremely deadly in humans and extremely contagious. Likewise it could mutate into something that is extremely beneficial to humans or mutate into nothing.
The bird flu scare is a gigantic waste of time. It has killed less people than a single plane crash and your chances of getting in a plane crash or far more likely than getting bird flu.
Of course the pentagon didn't invent bird flu, but Rumsfeld is nevertheless profiting from a billion dollar order for tamiflu from the US government since he is - coincidentally, I'm sure - probably the largest single shareholder in Gilead, the manufacturer of Tamiflu. Nevermind that Tamiflu has no known effect on human bird flu.
The US administration lives off fear. Bush mentions 911 at every public moment. Bird flu is part of the same fear effort. Both terrorism and bird flu are real problems, but no where near the threat the government wants you to believe.
