As nice as it is to see the US take a beating, Iw ould have rather not played the Russians in the quarters.

Lol...that's hardly a miracle considering how poorly this U.S. team has performed.

US Hockey has really gone downhill since they started letting NHL players in. One practice before competing isn't enough guys.

No offense to anyone but...Thank God! I find it so pathetic that the US won one game against Russia, and yet they already made a full-scale movie on it. A documentary- sure; but a movie- lol. It's just sad...

Whatever. When a bunch of college kids beat the most dominant hockey team in the world in 1980-and had lost to them 10-3 14 days before, it's a big deal. It's still probably the greatest upset in sports' history.

Maybe where you come from, it's sad, but here, it's still very inspirational.

I agree, it might be inspirational for the US, but in my opinion creating an entire movie out of one won game is just stupid.

Already made a move about it? It was only what? 25 years after the fact.

But I think Falcon summed up the David and Goliath aspect of this story nicely.

Well it would be even worse if NHLers weren't allowed. Depth outside the NHL is greater in Canada and Europe than the US.

I wonder if they will make a women's hockey movie "disappointment on ice" after their loss to the Swedes? I'll tell you what though the US Women's Team had more hotties on their roster than any other women's team, not that that's saying too too much.

Let's see, Team Russia has the cream of the up and coming and future NHL superstars (Kovalchuk, Datsyuk, Malkin, Ovechkin), the US, well no...... This year isn't our year in the Olympics. 2010 is when USA Hockey will be back among the elite then if the NHL players do play in Vancouver. We'll have players like Jim Slater, Phil Kessel, Ryan Suter, Zach Parise, Jack Johnson, Dustin Brown, Patrick O'Sullivan, and Bobby Ryan just to name a few high quality USA players who will be hitting their prime around 2010. The same goes for Team Canada as well. In 2010, they'll definitely have a murderer's row of a line up.

Yeah to call it anything close to miracle 2 is a stretch. If you wanted miracle two, check out the swedes beating the US women the other night, that was a fairly major upset.
US hockey is in a transition olympics. There are quite a few young guys (gomez, gionta, cole, dipietro, etc) who will be around for the future and hopefully we can build a strong program around them.

Well, I think what I would like to see, is more College and Minor league players, and knock off the NHL'rs. Maybe make an upper salary limit.

Did you ever see Canadian Bacon? Remember the scene where they are by the fire discussing hockey and the black guy is talking about how the brothers are starting to figure out that game and they are going to take it over.

Phil Kessel will not even go number one in the draft.
Parisse and O'Sullivan (you can have our cast-off)
Bobby Ryan and Jim Slater will be playing for Jokerit Helsinki by then.

It was a sporting event that truly transcended sports, it was the cold war on ice. It was definitely more than a game to millions and millions of people, its even a 'where were you when...' moment.

There were actually two movies. And it wasn't about one game, my friend. It was how Herb Brooks, RIP, took a team of college kid, most of whom had never played to gether, and most of whom never got near the NHL, and made them into a Gold Medal team.

The first movie, back in the 80's, was called "Miracle On Ice", starring Karl Malden as Herbie; in "Miracle", it's Kurt Russell who plays the late Herb Brooks.

Actually twice, Feb 27, 1960 USA 3 USSR 2 in the semi-finals; US gets the gold and USSR the bronze. Herb Brooks the 1980 coach was one of the last guys if not the last to be cut from the 1960 squad.

Hell,

I'll proabably get a few days for this one..

but, maybe if Bryant Gumbel had his way, and the USA had more black hockey players, they'd win the Gold.  biggrin

Seriously people, the USA is NOT a hockey player producing country. Just because the NHL is here, doesn't mean the USA will have the best players.

Aeroflot, it's kind of funny that you're shocked that a movie was made out of that 1980 game... do you have any idea how many movies have been made about high school football teams trying for a state championship, for instance? If it's a good story, it'll be turned into a movie by hollywood, regardless if it's "pathetic" that it was just one game that it focuses on

This is new: it seems Olympic curling is a hotter topic than ice hockey in Finland at the moment. Curling has been a tiny sport here, but now it could bring an Olympic medal.
But if the Finnish hockey team still goes strong in Turin, it sure gets back the attention, after all it is the most popular sport in Finland.
