The highly quotable mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, has done it again. Check out this beauty, talking about the upcoming New Orleans mayoral election:http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/3701694.html

Excerpt:
"This process that's before us is one that I'm getting more uncomfortable with every day. This is not about Ray Nagin," he told the group. "There is potential for major changes in the political structure."

Nagin noted that 23 candidates entered the mayoral fray before the registration deadline last week.

"Very few of them look like us," he told the almost totally black crowd of about 200 persons who attended the meeting at the NAACP Family & Technology Center on Fannin."

This idiot's just begging to lose the election.

Obviously a referance to the third or fourth arm some NO residents have sprouted due to the toxic sludge after the flooding.  sarcastic

Saddly enough... I think there is going to be another term of Nagin.

I'm thinking he'll likely make the 2-person runoff election, then get blown out (by either Forman or Landrieu).

Why would New Orleans vote in change now? They haven't in the past-how-many-decades?

Just how blatantly racist can get man get? First - the "Chocolate City" bullshit and now this.

What really fries my ass is all of the people of color that seem to support him - but would absolutely jump up and down, sceram and yell, call Jesse and his other attention whore buddy, if a "white" person made a similar remark. It'd be all over the damn news so fast it'd make one's head spin.

I think the people in New Orleans - that vote for this racist, non-performer - deserve what they get. . . . and it will be my LAST visit to NOLA . . . and I like the place . . .

Can you imagine the uproar if a similar remark had been made by the white Mayor of say - Biloxi, Mississippi - in regards to city?!

Inexcusable. Unconscionable.

Amen!

What does he think he is doing exactly? Racism is not only against Blacks, it can also be against White people, Hispanics, or any other group! He's an idiot... Hopefully he loses and thinks about what he says. Kerry did the same thing during the 2004 election, say what the group you're presently in front of wants to hear, have some values Nagin, get a backbone!

Let us rememeber that when common sense and brains were passed out Ray Nagin was absent. He has proved that he is not only incompetent as to running a city but pretty much ignorant. NO has a tough road ahead and re-electing some idiot that blames everything on other people and says things so stupid that even Howard Dean would be suprised is not a good first step.

Boy, you've done it now. You've a cardinal Anet sin - you've had the audacity to suggest that whites can be on the recieving end of racism. Weren't you in class the day we were all instructed on how whites can never be victims of racism?

No comment because no comment is deserved. He was in bad taste, but politicians do this all the time, to a much greater degree than Nagin did.

There is nothing wrong with asbestos, as long as you take proper precautions when working with it.

My dad worked with and around asbestos for the better part of 40 years - in the boiler house of a large oil refinery. He's going to be 80 years old this May, and is healthy as a horse.

Well, I am happy for your dad and congratulate him on his long life, but there are lots of others who are dead or dying painful deaths because of that garbage.

Seriously. I don't like what he said and think some of his statements of late have been ill-timed, ill-concieved and just plain stupid, however they don't compare to what Kathleen Blanco did to Bobby Jindal or what GWB did to John McCain.

Couldnt have said it better ANC. You mentioned Biloxi, imagine if it were one of the northern "vanilla cities" say Minneapolis. OMG there would be one hell of an uproar, probably make the recent Paris riots look like a moshpit at a Garth Brooks concert.

Now I agreed with all of your post except this sentance because all politicians do that, to single out Kerry isnt quite fair. He never made blatantly racist comments like Nagan has done at least twice now.

Wouldn't the residents of New Orleans want a new mayor after the failures of Katrina? I heard he was already campaigning in Houston.

So over a thousand people die, and they want to keep the same corrupt garbage in power?
