Yes he has condemned Al-Jazeera news channel based in Qatar which is the CNN of the Arab world for giving coverage to Osama bin Laden to air his views and pass fatwas, similarly American news channels have been barred from showing his footage unneccessarily too so as not to arouse anti-American sentiment, Qatar in response have said they learned freedom of speech from America itself and will continue with that policy on the news front Smile

Sounds like free speech to me.
I am NO fan of Osama bin Laden but if they want to air his b/s, let them. I assume Colin Powell will boycott oil from Qatar.  Big grin

It is free speech but Powell does make a good point.

The concerns about keyworks and hidden messages in these taping is very legit. But as I said earlier it is free speech to show the tapes.

But the concern is still there.

Seems to me, that in wartime, you try to limit the propoganda and lies spread by people like Bin Laden. Who's free speech are we violating, Airmale? Osama Bin Laden's? The people who support him? If that's the case, then I'm all for limiting their "free speech", since they don't believe in free speech in the first place.

Once again, Airmale makes it quite clear who he backs in this conflict, and it's not the United States nor the majority of the world community.

Let's get something straight here. Is the United States government making mandates barring this coverage, or are they urging the media to do the right thing and not show this stuff. Let's get it right before we start crying about free media rights. The US gov't can complain and pressure the media all they want. That's one thing. But to actually bar the coverage under a mandate? That's totally different!!! I have heard of no censorship thus far.

So. the Arab nations support terrorism? Well, I support Colin Powell's opinion.

Some day your oil fields will dry up. Technology will provide an alternate means of fuel. We won't be giving you billions of $$$ anymore. Your fuedal King's and Monarch's will take what ever money is left over and move to Switzerland leaving the rest of you high and dry!!!

You guy's will be up shit river without a paddle because you are so lazy you hire foreigners to do everything for you. Well, when the money runs out they will return to their Homelands leaving you without ability to even to accomplish day to day tasks.

Seems like so many people hate Americans because of what we have. We made it happen, so can you. Stop killing us because you are jealous, demand change in your society. Join us! There really is room for everybody.

Alpha 1, and you think the US is telling you all? Come on, everybody knows that in war time both sides are making use of the airwaves to fight the porpoganda war. It happened before and will happen next time.

Anyway, didn't the US stand for "the land of the free" regardless of your race , religion and/or political ideas? Seems as if the US only advocates free speech if it suits them. A very good way to make friends in the Middle East.

BTW Metwrench, apart for the fact that Osama has the opposite views of the "Kings and Monarch's I hope you realise that these Kings and Monarch's have invested a lot of money in the Western world and thus are very important for the Western economy (and the US in particular). Moreover, they can take the entire world hostage as, unfortunately, we need one of their export products to drive or to fly.

Regards
Laurens

Freedom of Expression should be protected. Even Bin Laden has that freedom.

Thats the difference between US and Them! We respect everybody's freedom to express themselves. THEY (meaning the Islamic world) dont.

Indianguy, Bin Laden has WHAT??? He lives in a society that has NO FREEDOMS, and yet you say he has a "right" to freedom of Expression? Does that "freedom of expression" include masterminding a plot to kill 6000 innocent people? You have got to be kidding me!!

Bin Laden has NO RIGHTS, of the type that are availiable in a free, open society, Indianguy!!! He's a murderer on a global scale. He's had his henchmen kill people all over the world, and you, in your infinate insanity, want to convince ANYONE that he has RIGHT??? You have a few loose screws in that head of yours. That's the most repugnant, preposterous thing I've ever read on here.

Fortunately America has a clean history. Your government never managed to kill millions of original inhabitants, never slaved the black man, raped indian women, claimed their properties and put up a flag good for anything but justice.

It's amazing how self-righteous the majority of Americans justify their inconsiderate way of lies. Oops. I meant life.

I'm not being self-righteous at all, Cliffie. That's just the way it is-this guy is a murderer, and someone wants to protect his RIGHTS??

And being lectured on a country's history by someone living in Germany is the ultimate in hypocrisy, Cliffie. The history of Germany in the 20th Century is nothing to be toatally proud of is it? The things that America did in it's deep, dark past pale in comparison to what Adolph Hitler visited on the world between 1933 and 1945. His "Reich" was the biggest lie of the 20th Century, matched only by the lie of Communism.

Hmm Cliffie...given a choice between the American way of life and the mysogynist/Taliban/Islamic way where I can be beaten for not growing a beard I'll choose the American any day of the week. America isn't perfect but its a damn sight better than the third-world banana republics mired in poverty dotted throughout the world.

An Osama sympathasizer like you should leave the comfort of your free, liberal, open Western society and join your friends in Pakistan/Afghanistan. If you really want to defend such a scumbag, why not do it directly?
