Did anyone else take the night off from basketball to watch St. Cloud State's amazing win over Minnesota? Heck of a game. SCSU was up 5-2 at one point and at the end of the 2nd, SCSU was up 7-5. UM tied it in the last two minutes and took it to OT where SCSU eventually managed to seize one of their few offensive opportunities to win the game. While Minnesota dominated the 3rd period and the OT period, SCSU hung in there and struck whenever they could. Flyers draftee Ryan Potulny scored 4 of the 7 UM goals and picked up his 5th hat-trick of the year.

That'll set up the fifth meeting of the season between Minnesota and Wisconsin. They meet tomorrow afternoon in the WCHA Final Five 3rd place game. The season series is tied.

In the WCHA final, it'll be North Dakota, who beat the Badgers (tough day for UW fans,) and St. Cloud State.

In the CCHA, Michigan State will play the Miami Redhawks after downing archrival Michigan earlier tonight. The Redhawks beat Northern Michigan in what could've been an upset. NMU was up 2-0 at the end of the first..

BU meets BC in the Hockey East final. Harvard and Cornell are the finalists in the ECACHL.

Can't wait for the NCAA tournament!

My DU Pioneers got beaten by freakin Duluth in the WCHA First Round, 2 games to 1 (at home!), so sadly my college hockey season is done...absolutely zero chance of them getting an at-large to the field of 16 despite the second place finish in the regular season in the WCHA...

My UAF Nanooks got eliminated in three games by MSU last week. They did sweep Notre Dame in South Bend the week before. I was hoping for another trip to the Joe but we'll have to wait.

Also saw a blurb in the paper today that UAF defenseman Jordan Hendry is leaving UAF to try out with an AHL team back east. Hendry will be missed; he had four years at UAF but missed almost all of his junior year thanks to a cheap shot (boarding, as I recall) by a UAA player that blew out his knee. He's a great guy; I had a couple of classes with him. Felt bad seeing him on crutches after his injury.

The Joe looked pretty empty last night in both CCHA games, even in the Michigan - Michigan St. game.

Went to Northern Michigan when the program just started and in four years they were in the NCAA Finals, very disappointed in yesterday game up 2-0 and lose it on three cheap goals. CCHA was projected at one time to get 4-5 teams into the NCAA now it looks like only two or three. College hockey is a great time!

Ah, I miss the days I was at Bowling Green, and how fun college hockey was! Of course, it helped that back then, BG was a true power in the sport, and even won the NCAA title in '84, a 4-overtime win over Duluth.

But BG seems to have faded from the college hockey scene in the CCHA for now, so it's not as fun to follow, I must admit. Still, I cut my teeth watching hockey on the collegiate level, and I always thought it was a much more fun game to watch than the pros.

As a Terrier (student, not player), i must say that I'm lovin it. A trouncing of UNH (who I was legitimately scared of), 9-2.

A bit worried about the game (i'll admit it) tonight, seeing as how BC NEEDS the win in order to get into the NCAA tourney. They're currently on the bubble. But then again, BU has handled BC well. Corey Schnider is anything BUT C.S. against the terriers, where his 1.9 GAA skyrockets to about 4. The key is holding Boyle and Collins in check.

Let's go Terriers!

Here here! As a floridian, I was never able to expirence college hockey until i went to school in CT. (turns out that Florida schools have wanna be hockey teams in a wanna be league) When I went to my first college hockey game, it was amazing. So far, I've gone to about 5 mens games as media, and about 5 home games as a fan as well as 2 away games, one at Yale, on 2 1/2 hours away! (Away crowds are awesome in college hockey!) If you've nevr been to a NCAA hockey game, you got to go!

Some Big 12 schools formed a rec hockey league and tried to be taken seriously, IIRC they're still a rec league and not NCAA sanctioned. They'll probably be DIII at best right now with their quality of play. The closest NCAA hockey team to Florida is UA - Huntsville. They were close to getting a berth to the tournament last I checked.

I went to one in Madison this season, when the Badgers lost to MTU. Despite the loss, the atmosphere was amazing. Several times better than all pro games I've ever attended. I'd love to go to a big time NCAA hockey rivalry like UM - UW or a Beanpot tournament game.

Michigan/Michigan State at either site along with Boston U vs. Boston C. are some others worth your time.

We here at CU have a club hockey team...it seems like many schools that dont have a NCAA team at least have a club team, but the quality of play in club hockey is a huge step down from any sort of NCAA hockey...

http://www.achahockey.org is the league that we play in...the games arent terribly popular around here, even when hated rival Colorado State comes to play...

Texas also has a ACHA team. That's the league I was trying to remember the name. They'll be a DII team in the ACHA starting next season, moving up from DIII. I went to a couple of games and the attendence was mostly the players' friends and family. The quality of play was crap, too. UT beat A&M by something like 15-4, at one point they played 3-on-3.

When MU and MSU played last night, The Joe was pretty empty. I thought this was a more heated rivalry than that game's attendence led one to believe.

I would blame the lack of attendance at the Joe for the MSU/UM game due to spring break; and the lack of advance notice, it wasn't until late Sunday night that it was known that MSU was going to make it as Alaska-Fairbanks took them to three games in the conference playoffs. They played regular season games there and its been packed. The same goes for this week NCAA basketball games and last weeks conference tournments, a number of empty seats due to last minute scheduling, lack of quick access, increase in ticket prices etc.

Nebraska-Omaha in the tournment. You gotta be kidding. Placed fifth in the CCHA, last weekend of the season they could beat the pasty Western Michigan, Lost to Northern Michigan in two games in the CCHA playoffs and they still made the tournment. Why let Denver the number #2 team in the regular season in the WCHA attempt to make it 3 national titles in a row.

Man, how did CC get in this year when DU didn't? That's some BS right there...both CC and DU got knocked out at home in the first round of the WCHA playoffs, DU finished ahead of them in the regular season standings, and in head to head, DU clobbered them with 3 wins and a tie this season...what a bunch of bullshit this is...

Why has the media been in love with UNO this season? I haven't been able to catch any of their games, so I can't really say much about them but all I read is "Scott Parse this, Scott Parse that." Seems like they're a one-man team?

Looking at UNO and DU's schedules, it looks like they both dropped tough games against tough opponents but hung on to win some against some bona-fide championship contenders. However, considering DU are the two-time defending national champions and from the conference that has won the last 4 national titles it seems crazy that they were left out.

The Beanpot is-indeed- a must. It's electric.

Not to mention there's a sea of red in the bleachers, screaming profanities at the opposing team. Obnoxious--- no better way to be!

I think the Tiger's invite was based on ranking throughout the season. CC had a bad last month, but prior to that they were consistently ranked in the top five nationally. I was surprised to see the Pioneers left out too. I'm a Tigers fan from way back, but your right, DU got robbed.

There has been some talk in recent years about expanding the national tournament from 16 teams to 24 or even 32 in order to accommodate additional teams. It wasn't too long ago that the NCAA had a hard time finding 16 really good teams fill out the brackets. The quality of Division 1 hockey has improved significantly in the last ten years or so. Often there was only one or two teams in each conference that had any business in a national tournament, now sometimes there are three or four.

My bulldogs might not have made it, but at least we made ncaa history by winning the longest college hockey game ever played, and we won our first ECACHL playoff series in 8 years while actually reaching double digits in wins this year.
I have to say I have mixed feelings about Harvard and Cornell, more so about Harvard than Cornell. I'd love to see a team from the Ivy League win, but I'd also love to see Harvard get their asses kicked.
