Any Chicago fans here?
They are one of my favorite bands. I was raised on there music.
They are/were truley innovative.

They started in the late 1960s as a hippie/anti-war 'counter-cultuer' rock band. They were rather unusual because they had a horn section. They were formed in 1967 but there first release was in 1969. They were produced by the same producer of Blodd Sweat & Tears (formed in 1968). They also had a horn section.
They changed with the times. after the 60s psychedelia had passed, they did epic-length pieces and realy pushed there musical boudaries. In 1974, they released Chcago VII my favorite which was a jazz/fusion album. They also experemented with classical styles as well. They even did a few disco songs in the late 70s. In the 80s they did a lot of cheesy love ballads that actually sold well. In 1995 they went back to there jazz/horn roots.

It's unfortunate what happened to Terry Kath. Byblos is one of my favorites.

One can find Chicago memorabilia at Demon Dogs (beneath the Fullerton "L" station) near DePaul University.

This song doesn't have the usual "orchestral" accompaniment but, in my opinion, is one of their best ever. Superfly might concur... Big grin

Personally, I like Chicago VII (released in 1974) the best. That's when they really went to a real jazz sound. The songs Prelude, Aire and Devils Suite are just awesome!
Color My World as written by the Trumpet player James Pankow and Frank Sinatra wanted to re-record the song if it had and extra verse. The band refused to re-write the song for 'Ol Blue Eyes'.

I am not sure how open you are to '70s disco but the band did a disco song in 1979 (Chicago XIII) which featured Maynard Ferguson on a trumpet solo in the song 'Street Player'. This song was recently remade into a techo/house track by the 'Bucketheads' in 1995.
It's pretty awesome.

Chicago would be found in the 'rock' section of music stores.
If I were you, I would go up to Broadway or Clark St. to the record stores there. You can find Chicago LPs for $1.00. Do you have a turntable & reciever?
Every trumpet player should have Chicago in there collection.
If you only have CDs, I am sure they are pretty cheap too.

I actually saw Chicago in concert this past summer. I won a bunch of free tickets through a radio giveaway. Anyway, they put on a pretty good show and I do agree with Superfly that EVERY trumpet player should at least listen to Chicago once. They have an awesome brass section. Anyway, that's my $0.02.

You got a chance to see them! That's so cool!
I've miss them everytime they come around. I want to see them with Peter Cetera. I saw Peter Cetera at Harveys Hotel & Casino in Lake Tahoe, Nevada back in 1996. It's not the same seeing him solo. The guy who replaced Cetera (Jason Schiff) in 1985 trys way too hard to sound like Peter Cetera that he makes me want grit my teeth!
None-the-less it's great to see them still around and full of energy.
