Today I learned some really sad news, a student who used to have very good grades has been thrown out of the university after missing over 60% of his classes this semester, the reason, he has logged over 211 playing days in one year on WoW. Another student who used to have a 3.8 GPA is on academic probation due to his obsession with this game, his friends had to stage an intervention and he finally accepted to stop playing. He is now being monitored by his friends to avoid him "falling of the wagon".
What is so special about this game that makes it like a drug? I have never played it nor do I understand it, but seriously some people are really obsessed, and it seems to be more common than other games.
There is even a video online of a person that is caught masturbating to World of Warcraft.
Does anybody play this game? any questions or comments will be appreciated.

All I can share is that my roommate my freshman year had just such a problem, and it was really sad. He literally skipped every class after about 1/3rd of 2nd semester had gone by, he'd be up all night playing that game with his headset on whispering to his "buddies", and he'd sleep most of the day. 2 weeks before the end of the semester he just left without a word, I guess he realized he was going to fail every class so he cut his losses and withdrew... all because of a damn game. Sad!

Interesting you mention that. My brother in laws buddy is the same way. All day and all night, all he does is play that game. Same situation. Pretty wierd. It got to the point his parents are cancelling their internet access.

the longest i've ever played a video game for has been about 5 hours. and that's only because i was home with a broken collar bone, i couldn't do much else.
but i don't see the obsession with this game. maybe there's some sort of subliminal message in it
