Sometimes I think I lead a charmed life and then once in a while the reality check comes along and I do something that turns to custard.
Tonight I went fishing and against all my local knowledge I landed the boat at low tide on a notorious beach for difficult landings at low tide.
Thats how I smashed my foot up, when the surf hit the back of the boat and knocked the trailer out of my hand, the tow-hitch (aided by the weight of boat and surf) smacked me on the left foot.
As if that didn't take the piss, I was dragging the trailer up the ramp using my car and a tow-rope as I didn't want to get my car stuck on the sand, must have been the pain in my foot but a momentary lapse of concentration and I turned too soon, the trailer hit the rock wall and snapped the main trailer spar, leaving the boat hanging off at an angle, the trailer now L shaped and me unable to walk without swearing.
BUT, I rang my neighbours and a passer-by came to help too so after an hour of grunt and heave and much trickery with ropes,we got the whole sorry mess home and after filleting the fish (the night wasn't a total disaster) I am now a.netting with one foot the size of a grapefruit!!
I'm sharing this just so you don't all go around thinking that its all beer and skittles here in NZ, you can have a rough day here too

Quoting BNE (Reply 1): Going fishing at low tide what a stupid idea; or did you thing that it would be easier to catch fish with less water around.
Tide makes very little difference (except on this beach) the Hauraki Gulf is thick with Snapper at the moment, I was just trying to make some room for the swimmers!
Quoting ScarletHarlot (Reply 3): What kind of fish did you get and were they tasty?
Snapper...and they're always tasty when you eat them within an hour of their demise!!
Foot looks like crap this morning but the trailer just needs welding, I wish I could weld my toe though!!!

Quoting QANTASFOREVER (Reply 6): No doubt you were baffled as to why Her Majesty's private protection detail weren't abseiling out of RAF helicopters to come to your aid.
They did send a Knight in shining armour by way of the passer-by, he was an engineer and materialised just at the right time.

A little bird tells me they were busy keeping an eye on you at the time.
She's as nervous as a very small nun at a penguin shoot.
