A Night To Forget!

Sometimes I think I lead a charmed life and then once in a while the reality check comes along and I do something that turns to custard.

Tonight I went fishing and against all my local knowledge I landed the boat at low tide on a notorious beach for difficult landings at low tide.

Thats how I smashed my foot up, when the surf hit the back of the boat and knocked the trailer out of my hand, the tow-hitch (aided by the weight of boat and surf) smacked me on the left foot.

As if that didn't take the piss, I was dragging the trailer up the ramp using my car and a tow-rope as I didn't want to get my car stuck on the sand, must have been the pain in my foot but a momentary lapse of concentration and I turned too soon, the trailer hit the rock wall and snapped the main trailer spar, leaving the boat hanging off at an angle, the trailer now L shaped and me unable to walk without swearing.

BUT, I rang my neighbours and a passer-by came to help too so after an hour of grunt and heave and much trickery with ropes,we got the whole sorry mess home and after filleting the fish (the night wasn't a total disaster) I am now a.netting with one foot the size of a grapefruit!!

I'm sharing this just so you don't all go around thinking that its all beer and skittles here in NZ, you can have a rough day here too  Wink

Were you taking the day off work to go fishing; hmmm;

Or is daylight savings about to end.

Going fishing at low tide what a stupid idea; or did you thing that it would be easier to catch fish with less water around.

Hope the foot gets better soon.

See a.net does have its uses.

Andy,
the way you described it really sounds like one of those cartoons where everything goes wrong. Good luck for your foot!

Oh Andy! That does not sound good. See, you lose Bill and look what happens. Hope you heal up soon. What kind of fish did you get and were they tasty?

But that was when I ruled the world

Tide makes very little difference (except on this beach) the Hauraki Gulf is thick with Snapper at the moment, I was just trying to make some room for the swimmers!  Smile

Snapper...and they're always tasty when you eat them within an hour of their demise!!  Smile

Foot looks like crap this morning but the trailer just needs welding, I wish I could weld my toe though!!!

No doubt you were baffled as to why Her Majesty's private protection detail weren't abseiling out of RAF helicopters to come to your aid.

I guess the Monarchy isn't as omnipotent as we thought previously.

Seriously Jafa, get well soon.  Wink

They did send a Knight in shining armour by way of the passer-by, he was an engineer and materialised just at the right time.

Empire is love?

Perhaps Goldstein was the root cause of your problems that fateful night?

Say what you will about metrosexuals, but methinks they'll be around a lot longer than pommie amateur fishermen.

Oh come on Jafa, it's more like: two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.

Which would make you smaller in real life than in pictures, irresistable to fat people, a pop culture icon, and full of crap.
