The first race of 2006 takes place today in Spain, with some new names in the top category. Daniel Pedrosa, Randy de Puniet and Casey Stoner have made the step up from 250cc to the big league and Pedrosa has already shown his speed, taking 2nd place on the grid behind fellow Spaniard Sete Gibernau. He only weighs 47kg so that is worth some extra horsepower!

Australian Chris Vermeulen (yeah Australian with that surname!) is also starting his first full season in Moto GP on the Rizla Suzuki.

World champion Valentino Rossi was 6th fastest but said he was happy with his bike.

Good stuff, I reckon this year will be a ripper!!! Go Rossi!! But the good thing about MotoGP is...I don't mind who wins as long as the racing is close!!

Well Rossi will want to forget this race, he was bumped off on the first corner and finished second last. Loris Capirossi rode in front almost from start to finish to win on his Ducati. Great race by Moto GP rookie Daniel Pedrosa, finishing second.

I'm pissed. Because it's Mothering Sunday I had to miss the race!  Sad

I heard it was quite a good one though. How bad was Rossi's crash? Was it Elias's fault?

Yup he rode into the back of Rossi who was lucky not to get run over. He got up and punched the air and by the time he got back on his bike the field was long gone.

There's a video clip here: http://www.motogp.com/en/motogp/index.htm
