I hope the link and all that works out for this. I saw this video last night on Letterman and thought it would be a good discussion.

Can download or stream it from this website.

A dea agent teaching a gun safety class to a group of people in the Orlando FLA area shot himself with his .40caliber glock pistol during the class. Video is fairly entertaining. All your comments are welcome.

As for my own, he checked to make sure it was unloaded first, that was off screen therefor tough to see how it did happen. But I love the fact he said he was the only one professional enough to handle this weapon then Bammm
Interestingly, virtually no reaction from the audience. Stunned silence, and probably a very loud ear ringing. Nobody really moved until he wanted to keep the presentation moving along despite having a gunshot wound. People began to object when he brought out what appeared to be an AK-47 or variant of it.

Old video but still funny to see what happens when people get to confident in themselves to follow basic safety rules.

I've seen it before . . . in fact a year or so ago there was thread here about that very video.

The cop failed rule #1 and rule #2 of the 4 rules of gun safety . . . idiot. Guns are not toys. IF that gun was being used to train people, it damn sure should have been cleared first and foremost. Even then, the 4 rules of gun safety still apply.

The agent needs retraining. . . .

I'll bet he doesn't forget the rules again.

I don't know anything about guns, but that must have hurt, and he just kept going.

I know it, he even wanted to go on and show the kids an AK variant and thats when people started to object. I cant believe he kept his composure that well, one thing I can say he did do right, though the rest is straight from the what not to do textbook.

Looking at the video it looks as if he had his partner clear the gun. Which was a mistake. I cant believe that would happen. Matter of fact im still not sure how it did happen, the slide was open and it appeared the magazine was out, did a round fail to eject when he opened the slide.

BUUUZZZZZ - Wrong Answer. Rule #1 - All guns are always loaded.

Not to mention the common sense rule: Who do you trust??? Only myself, and then that's questionable.

Improperly cleared weapon is all I can figure. A round was, quite obviously, still in the chamber. One reason why when clearing a pistol (or anything else for that matter) it's smart to rack the action three or four times and VISUALLY inspect for bullets in the chamber.

And then there are those 4 rules again . . . . .

I've seen a version of the video that had't suffered from nearly as much compression.

There is a magazine in the weapon, and he does close the slide. You can hear the slide close with a very audible snap.

And now for the sillyness.

When he takes the weapon from it's holster he removes the magazine, then walks out of shot where he presumably has another inspect the weapon to see that it empty (according to reports). He then walks back into the shot with the weapon.

At some point off screen he has put the magazine back into the weapon, before closeing the chamber!

J.H.C!!!!! That is a grade A screw up.

In case you guys don't know the four rules.

1. Every gun is always loaded.
2. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction, unless you are about to shoot something.
3. Finger off the trigger, unless you are about to shoot something.
4. Know what you are shooting at, and what is behind it.

Extra chuckles for the "I'm the only one proffessional enough" BS

This was the guys own fault.

Can't put it any clearer then that.

I would go so far to question DEA policy if it didn't prevent him from pulling it out in that situation.

Only retraining? He should be fired on the spot for being such an idiot to bring loaded gun into a classroom full of kids. How lucky those kids were no one head his/her head blown off by this clown!
Too bad he didn't kill himself, because then his victory in the annual Darwin Award would be almost guaranteed...

Although extremely stupid, he seems to be a tough guy. I imagine a .40caliber makes a nice hole.

A NJ State Trooper shot himself in the leg last week, while "securing" his weapon before he got out of his car at home.

The next morning State Troopers were walking all over my sister-in-law's front yard with metal detectors looking for the second bullet. They never did find it!

The agent in the video is no longer an agent, if I recall correctly. His identity was supposed to remain concealed, but as this video has been making rounds his face is out there plainly for everyone to see, so he was forced to give up his DEA career.

Don't hold me to that, it is just something I remember reading a while ago. The details may be a little sketchy.

Did he REALLY HAVE a gunshot wound ? Any REAL evidence for that ? To me, it is definitely show ! We might dispute whether a good or a bad show. But he clearly wanted to shock. He could most easily have taken the AK-gun if he really wanted it, but did NOT take it.
