US Ambassador Attacked By Pro-Chavez Criminals

A group of Pro-Chavez supporters and members of the local municipal goverment loyal to Chavez, attacked the US Ambassador's car with eggs, onions, tomatoes and verbal insults while he was fleeing (forced to leave by the attackers) a kids' baseball field in a low-income Caracas neighborhood where he was donating baseball equipment for the underpriveledge boys to practice.

In clear violation of the Vienna Convention, the local pro-Chavez police did nothing to prevent the attackers from chasing in motorcycles the US convoy for miles across Caracas's highways.

The kids's parents reject the violence and intolerance of the pro-chavez group that forced the Ambassador to flee. They can't understand why they would attack someone who is helping their children develop their baseball skills. The little leaguers are part of a kids' league in Venezuela where many famous Venezuelan Big Leaguers have played during their youth.

I could understand this coming from pro-Chavez fanatics (but I would still condemn their actions). But members of the municipal government? How fucked up is that?!  no  Tsk tsk tsk...

Sad to see what this loco de remate is doing to your people.

Sounds delicious!
That's what I eat when I have hangovers.
All they're missing is some melted cheese, cilantro, olive oil and tabasco sauce.
That with a side of home fried potatos and I am in heavan.
YUM, YUM, YUM!  yes

Hola Luis!
This is to say the least outrageous! As much as someone can be against Bush and his policies, the police has an obligation to defend foreign diplomats, period. What would have happened if the same situation would have happened in DC? What would Chavez have said? He already calls Bush "Idiot", "Donkey" and other insults.
And besides, what would have happened if the ambassador would have been seriously injured, or even killed by the pro-Chavez attackers? Would'nt that be close to an act of war?

saludos  Smile

This just in :

Chavez is offended that the Ambassador is offended !

That rascal is getting downright "salty" in his old age.

I would like to bring to discussion the fact that Venezuela's Diplomatic Security (similar to the secret service) which is entrusted with protecting Ambassador Brownfield has seen its work severely impeded by the Embassy.

In statements made by Minister Araque, the DISIP was expelled from the embassy less than a year ago and is unaware of the locations that the ambassador will be visiting, lest 5 minutes beforehand. The DISIP can secure locations for Ambassador Brownfield, like it has done in the past for him and other U.S. envoys if and only if they know where to secure his safety.

Apparently the groups that booed the Ambassador where members of the rival baseball team that did not win the rights to use the field and where discontent at that.

Ambassador Brownfield has gone numerous times before to 'dangerous' areas and this has never happened. Next time, the DISIP should be made aware of his plans in order to provide him the security he DESERVES.

Yeah... and the motorcycles and salad bar just happen to be standard venezuelan sporting equipment for baseball... and the whole chaseing the ambassador part instead of the baseball team... ...

Nice spin post, too bad I don't think anyone will buy it.

Of course man, they ain't stupid. Also I don't think the Venezuelan embassy gives an internal pass to CIA guys in DC. Those DISIPs can easily be from the Cuban G2.

It's a bit more than 5min...

Exactly. This time there was a group of National Guard officers trying to calm down the protesters. They had vehicles, so I can't understand why they didn't escort the US convoy and avoid the chase by the motorizados.

I saw on the news that they were members of the Alcada Mayor (City Mayor) staff which wanted to take over control of the field from the Alcada Libertador (municipal govt.). In the video you can clearly see the Alcaldia Mayor hat on the leader of the attackers.

Completely agree.
