Well, not quite... (Yet!!!)

As the World Cup approaches different media in Argentina advertise with the pictures of pretty women wearing the national colors.

Terra.com.ar was no exception, but in this shoot model Emilia Attias decided to wear a clown's suit called the brittie... umm english, football jersey (   ).

A very short jersey. The item was legit imported straight from Britain, and included the three pussy cats, we mean, golden Lions on the emblem. This has created international scandal. According to Spanish newspaper AS, the model is not English-born, but that she is rooting for England to win the World Cup.

Another paper claims that Attias in fact is not argentine but Brazilian, stating that she does root with her compatriots, but wants England to win this time around. Her sympathies for England may stem from a supposed relationship with an English ex-pat now living in Argentina, which she met at a cultural gathering of the sizeable British descended population. The English boyfriend may be a newcomer and not an old British-Argentine from the railway period. Since 2003 European inmigration to Argentina began to increase, and has exploded in 2005 and 2006 to it's highest levels in 42 years.

To the surprise of many, Argentina is never mentioned anywhere in these articles, Emilia's homeland (now at least), where she lives, works, and gets paid to pose with the ENGLISH jersey. (INFORTERA.com)

She should thanks she lives in Argentina, had she worn the sky/white in Brazil or England she would have been lynched within two hours...

I'll let other Americans handle this one, but of more pressing importance is the fact that you lost your wallet, it has your sense of humor in it!

Read the article again, if you can't see it was all in half-jist then call Comedy Central, quick!

Finally a responsible and sensible statement!

ps- The story is real, but it was buried on a newspaper just as an anecdote, and unlike what some would then claim to state it's not an issue at all in Argentina. I just made the title sound important, it's a writing technique called sarcasm, which some here still need to learn about...

It's a free country and anyone can wear whatever they want. You will see more than a few english jerseys on the streets, and of english teams.

Only verbally though... for not taking it off. The Sun would have been all over her.

Surely people have better things to be doing than getting their knickers in a twist over something like this?

I think it would be a very good idea to get her knickers in a twist about this.

Err... it's testimony to good taste on your part that you don't know it, but "The Sun" is the largest tabloid in the UK, and quite possibly the worst. They're famous for their anti-everything antics each time some kind of things comes up.

Oh, them. Heard something about that, but not too much. An Argentine president once said "the level of civilization of a people can be judged by which newspaper they they take to the outhouse, and which newspaper they use AT the outhouse..."

As for the chick above, well maybe if she had worn the proper jersey...

Or

But no! Cheers.

Maybe some people support players from their country whom play for pro teams in another. Maybe they like the football (soccer) of another country. Maybe someone just likes to be different or a rebel.

So, Derico, you are now quoting a newspaper from Concepción del Uruguay, Entre Ríos as a reliable source of information?  bouncy

http://www.lacalle-online.com/noticias.php?id=73275&seccion=11

Quite funny, though. My uncle was director of La Calle for some years, ages ago. I wonder what he thinks about Emilia posing half-nude on his newspaper.  redflag

The article is written on a really humorous mode, and wanted people to laugh. At least I laughed while reading.  Smile On a side note, I never met Emilia, but I've seen her quite a few times on those stupid, mid-afternoon TV shows (Jorge Rial should say something to my fellow countrymen) and she doesn't sound really Brazilian, let alone English.

The World Cup is next door - and newspapers will get more stupid everyday. Welcome to the world of football.

Anyway, here is another picture of Emilia. Not with the English jersey, but who really cares? Enjoy!  Wink

Saludos,
Marambio
