Johan states in the user agreement section for photos that each photo has an "invisible watermark." What is that all about?

It's so if there is a "stolen" pic on a diff. Site, they can ID it.. Copyright Fraud Protection..

It's basically an invisible digital code in the images so they can be identified if they are found anywhere else. It helps keep the pics from being stolen off A.net and used on other sites.

How is the digital code inserted and how can it be ID'ed?

Using a program like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, etc. There are various ways of doing it, you can even get really fancy and encrypt it so only the author can identify it and you wouldn't even know it is there. I really don't know how exactly Johan does it, never had a reason to care. If you want to do it to your own images it is simple with any graphics program. Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Does it just insert a code somewhere into the data that makes up the file itself?

A digital watermark is a permanent proof of authenticity for an image. While a computer can detect it, it is imperceptible to the viewer. A watermark contains information about the creator, the copyright, and the image. It is embedded into the code of the image.
