The National Weather Service in Ft. Worth, TX, has just issued a tornado warning for an area about thirty miles west of me. It is moving east at approximately thirty miles per hour.

If you don't hear from me by morning, wait longer.

Another one 60 miles west of me, another one over near Junction. A couple different lines will be moving through, we'll be under the gun until 2-4 am. Be safe out there, BAB and others in central and east Texas!

Thanks. I've already experienced a brief power outage in the middle of the Stars - Avs game. If the storms continue moving the way they are, looks like SAT would be spared. I hope everyone else in Texas has a safe night!

we had some brush through last night, hail , and very strong winds. of course no tornadoes touched in our area ( AMA ) thankfully. although its inevitable one will this year (tornado alley cough cough).

The high winds also knocked the planes around at Gainesville, about 30 miles north of DFW.

That storm had previously spawned a tornado in Parker and Palo Pinto Counties, just to the west of Fort Worth. At it's peak, the storm had 60,000 foot cloud tops, hail up to baseball size, the tornado, and many instances of mesocyclones. It was an interesting night around here!

Texas is truly a wonderful place. I went to an antique radion auction here in Iowa and there was a table radio, mid fifties, coulda been a Watterson, had a storm detector on it. Right next to the tuner was an analog gauge that would flicker and jump around when there was some storm type rf going on. I turned away for a moment and it sold for seventeen bucks. Still kicking myself.

Course we get a few of those tornado thangs here in el Norte too. That's why a bunch of the houses out in the country have tornado cellars.

Every warning siren in the county is wailing! Multiple tornados are on the ground. I've never heard one siren go off during a storm in twenty-five years, much less all of them.

Head for the hills!

I've read that if you turn a tv set with an antenna to channel two, and darken the picture..if you see it getting white, you have a serious stom in your area. (NOAA radio's a lot more reliable, and I highly recommend it to anyone who experiences any sort of severe weather. A lot better than hoping the sirens wake you up in your sleep!!)

I'm posting from my phone now. All power is out. the trees outside are on their sides. the wind sounds like a jet engine. one 'nado touched down about a mile west and passed 1/4 mile to the north. another is following the same track now. there hasn't been a 'nado in Waco proper in over fifty years. Wild!!!

Woke up at 0150 to what sounded like a freight train roaring outside my apartment. Ran into the closet, grabbed a spare mattress in there, waited til it had passed. Fun times.

Here in IAH, we got ours around 0500. I gotta admit that it was one of the worst storms I've been through short of Alicia in '83.

Well, it's over. I followed suit with Texan, only in the bathroom (my bm schedule is very particular and demanding).

Damage is said to be in the tens of hundreds of dollars Big grin Gotta love the low cost of living here. There is some real damage, though no reports yet of cost.

Anyway, it was hella fun!

BAB

p.s. Walmart's closed  Sad WTF?!?
