I have an external hard drive. i got my new computer yesterday and when i hooked the external hard drive to my computer it worked fine and i was able to view some stuff i saved to it. but then i pulled the cord out(the usb cable for the external drive before i safely turned the computer off) then later on when i plugged it back in it seems like it wont load to my computer. and when i go to "my computer" and click on the drive for the external one which is f, it says there was an error and there was a I/O device error and its inacessible. what does that mean? the lights on the external drive keep blinking.

It sounds like either the controller or the drive itself might be damaged.
Try going into Disk Manager (right click My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Manager) and see if the drive is registering there, if it is then run a Disk Check on it to verify the filesystem. If it doesnt show up, you have issues.

Before you unplug youre external hard drive, you should click on the little icon on your task bar: safely remove Hardware (a little green arrow).
It is recommended although you have a USB plug. I have a Trekstor and it tells you to do that.
