What kind of job/s did you want when you were growing up?

As for me, when I was 4 years old, I wanted to be a garbage truck driver.
At age 6, I wanted to be a commercial airline pilot.
At 14, I wanted another type of job.  Silly
And at 18, I wanted and still want to be a cop.

How about you? What did you want to be?

I wanted to suffer from a life-long mental illness, or as some people call it, "being a pilot".

Oh how the young are foolish ....  Silly

Somehow I've managed to get myself (temporarily) stuck on the IT treadmill along the way though. Sad

Up until March, I pretty much wanted to be a pilot. Then I discovered my partial colorblindness would prevent me from ever being a commercial pilot, and now I have to rethink what I want to do with myself...

I wanted to be a train driver until I was ten
Then wanted to become a pilot, which is actually going to happen.

I did also go through various phases of wanting to do other things - lawyer (about 15), and ATCO (Something I'd still consider doing).

I wanted to be a fighter pilot when I was a kid, its still a dream to fly in one. I was like 5-6 years old when both Iron Eagle and Top Gun came out, very impressionable to me, so was watching the F15s over Elmendorf AFB in ANC.
Pro hockey player, that was dashed upon reaching my teenage years. Highschool history teacher, now Im going to be inbetween jobs here in a month.

I've been "into" a lot of things in my life...

I wanted to be a medical doctor (now I'm going to school to be a nurse)
Army strategist (until I realized I was a pacifist)
Marching band director or music teacher
Musical composer (I still am, but I don't sell my pieces)
Speedskating champion
Ski jumping champion (see the Winter Olympics theme here?)
Swimming/butterfly champion (can't forget the Summer Olympics)
Karate expert (I still have a mean side kick from a couple of years' lessons)
Actress (who called me a "drama queen?")
Writer (I still am, haven't had anything published quite yet)
Lawyer
Health ethicist (almost went to graduate school for that)
Patient care advocate (that will come with the nursing)

More will come to mind once I post this...  Wink

I've always said if I was....

6" taller I would be in the NFL.
6" shorter and I would be in the circus.
6" longer and I would be in porn.

Unfortunately I have been cursed in all of these so none of these childhood aspirations have come true.

Airline Pilot
Submarine Officer
Airline Ops Management

Now, I'm happy to whore myself to whatever job pays well. I've worked in IT for almost nine years now, but I've never really enjoyed it. I wish I had the money when I was younger to pursue dream job number 1, but its way too late now  Sad
