Bad Experiences With Tradesmen?

Have you ever had any bad experiences with workmen at your home? If so then please share. It's these guys that give the good guys a bad name. I haven't had any yet but there are some jobs around the house I know I won't be able to do myself. So what do you do? Do you know someone or do you just get as many quotes as you can?

I only hire people or companies that I either know personally or have been recommended by friends. It's usually a combination of both. I'll gladly pay more for someone with a good reputation and high quality.

I've never gotten stung yet.

I try and use small business' based nearby. Not only do I know where to find them, they usually can be trusted to do a good job, on spec.
