Just watched the Kentucky Derby, along with the traditional mint julips. I am so drunk you could roll me down the road. Who else did the same thing?

PS: My horse (Steppenwolfer) didn't win, but I'm so hammered I don't care  Silly

I watch every year but this year from the comfort of my couch. I didn't go this year as I'm getting too old to stay soused the entire day in the sun waiting for a midget beating a horse to run by.

I was betting on knob polisher, oh wait that is a horse from GTA San Andreas, yeah I watched it, only because I get one channel and the hockey game was on before. All the pomp and buildup for a 2 minute race, but hell Im an Alaskan could care less about it, there are more horses in that race than in the entire state probably.

Well put.

Well guys, I live in the Louisville metro area and the Kentucky Derby is a big deal to us. I agree that there's a lot of pomp for "the fastest 2 minutes in sports" but it does bring our community together and allows the world to get a bit of Kentucky traditions.

Plus during the Kentucky Derby there are big aircraft flying into town. DL flies 757 and sometimes 767. Co flies 737-800 and -900. Normally we get none of these so it's a nice change!

I know this is non-aviation but this fact makes it fun for the local a.netters like myself.

Cheers,
John

Imagine the buildup all day drinking waiting for the first 9 or so races to finish.

That amazed me the times we have been. No more than 30 minutes after the race all of the sudden the skies get real busy with all the corporate planes bugging out of town.

Well I'm surprised that A.net isn't buzzing somewhat about this, considering that the owner of the winner was a UA 232 survivor.

Oh well, I won an illegal $2 bet, I'm happy  Smile

Well I believe it all is coming to an end. Oh well, I guess we are gonna pretend.

He was the trainer, not the owner.

My brother won $5700 on a $1 trifecta box.

When I lived there I used to go to Derby, but it's such a hassle to visit the infield and overcome the inebriation the next day.

Plus, mint julips suck.

Until you've had 10 of them then you love them.

Just sitting here looking at my betting slip.

I bet each horse in the money across the board! 5 horses total, 3 in the money. Keyed Entry which led the first half of the race was 1 of the 5 too. At over 60 to 1, I was about to pass out!

Why oh why did I not go for a trifecta?
