OK, so due to lack of TOP GEAR until recently I was watching some episodes of FIFTH GEAR. And really it is horrid. OK maybe not quite as bad as horrid, but it is pretty soft or tame or boring as compared to TOP GEAR. So what is it for you guys?

FIFTH GEAR or TOP GEAR...?

Top gear easily!!

I went to Supercar racing at the weekend and tiff needal, the Fifth gear presenter, was in the pit lane and I had a pit lane pass and believe me he is as boring off the camera as he is on the camera!

Fifth gear is quite boring a part from the tests they do, like crashing a Espace a few weeks back etc.

The rest of the show is boring.

Jeremy Clarkson just cracks me up... over exaggeration, sarcasm, riddicule, then of course there are the sidekicks! Not forgetting the stig.... well the stig isn't funny but is still good to watch.

I think the contents of both programmes are different.

Top Gear review cars that 99% of the general public who can't afford them meanwhile Fifth Gear review cars that majority of the general public might buy.
They are both good fun to watch but Top Gear wins it for me.

I am pretty sure that "The Stig" is from Sweden. Stig is a Scandiavian name, and I remember someone telling me some time ago that he is from Sweden. Don't remember who told me that though.

I did hear who it was, but I'd never heard of him and have since forgotten. It was on here a few months ago. Definitely not any of the mainstream drivers.

If you want raw informative auto journalism, Fifth Gear is best. But for a fun look at cars, nothing beats Top Gear. I just showed my brother-in-law here in KY the latest Top Gear episode, and he laughed his ass off. Hammond driving around in a pink Micra with a bag over his head - priceless. Making a home-made covertible out of a minivan, and testing a £400,000 car, wrecking it, and then complaining that it didn't have enough downforce - what other program will do that?

That's the whole point. Notice that Top Gear is a full hour show, with no commercial breaks. Most auto shows are sponsored by Ford and other manufacturers, and they don't want to piss off their sponsors by slagging a car. Top Gear has no fear - if they think a car is trash, they say so. But on the other hand, if they say a car is great, they have credibility.

The "Stig" is a name given by Clarkson, from his schooldays at Repton School: "new boys at Repton were always called Stig".

There have been 2 Stigs so far, and more than one stand-in. For example, that episode when the Stig is seen in a Renault F1 doing a timed lap, that wasn't really Stiggy, but one of Renault's own test drivers.

Not to mention the stand-in driver who drove a snow-scooter down the Ski Jumping hill in Lillehammer.

As for me, it's all about Top Gear. I just find Fifth Gear too uninteresting for me.

Top Gear easily. Although I do think that Tiff Needal is unintentionally funny, especially when he starts literally throwing supercars round that little track with his usual bored expression. Something amusing about that.

For entertainment and humour, it has to be Top Gear, Hammond, May and Clarkson are great presenters and real pranksters. As mentioned, they only review sports and performance cars that only the rich can afford. Fifth Gear isn't bad either, i watch both.

That's hardly fair. They test plenty of cheaper cars, the Honda Civic and the Nissan Micra convertible in the last show. But yeah, they do lean on the expensive side, because frankly, it's what the people want. How many of us has the opportunity to drive a Ford GT or a Pagani Zonda? Watching them do it is as close as most of us will get.

I agree with you Cfalk,Fifth Gear is boring, test, test and another test. Even though they test supercars in Top Gear ( most of the people cant afford them), they give us the feeling of driving them, plus top gear is funny, the hosts are good, remember when they tested Cars against 747 power?, that king of episode make Top Gear Best TV show about cars.....

TOP GEAR ROCKS!!

I started watching this show on BBC Canada a few weeks back and now i make sure to tape every new episolde each week on my PVR. The show just rocks. End of Story.

26 Post contains images Zkpilot : so has Hammond had his teeth done?
27 Captaink : The million dollar question. Also I wonder what day time show he was on....
28 CPH-R : Not to mention the Fiat Panda which Jeremy Clarkson praised like there was no tomorrow.
29 AirbusA346 : It was the Five O'clock show I think, it was on ITV1 then Channel Four. Probably only because it annoyed the eco-mentalists, because the Panda he was
30 Paulc : Top Gear for me - 5th gear can be more informative but you rarely see the presenters together so there is little chance for interaction between them.
