I see they have a few Iberia and Binter Canarieras flights, why not use the bigger and safer Tenerife sur?

What is the point of having both airports?

Thanks

Norte is nearer the capital so most of the scheduled flights go there??
Reina Sofia is in the heart of holidaymaker-land so charter flights and some scheduled flights go there.

That airport is restricted for only Air Europa, Iberia, and some other Spanish carriers.

When in doubt, flat out!

Los Rodeos Airport was the main airport of Tenerife until the terrible Boeing 747 collision in 1977, and so they decided to build a new international airport (Reina Sofia) on another part of the island (lower, so it did not have any sudden fog banks coming over the runway and all sorts of unpredicatble weather like Los Rodeos). So, Norte is now for domestic use only, while Sur is used for the international flights.
