First Class passengers are my favourites. They can't get any further forward without an ATPL.

Not much fun. At least got to operate on two cases tonight already...

Hmmm... those books and scripts would fancy being read, I assume. Or at least the ones that'll matter next week.

Let's see, physiology (auditory system and equilibirum) on tuesday, alkalosis/acidosis on thursday, physiology and cancerogenesis on Friday plus 90 minutes of lecture every morning - make that 7:30 most often - plus a handy amount of reading up on that stuff I'll be doing plus studying what I've heard in the lecture.... should be fun.  tired

What did you get? During the last four nights of nursing internship (Krankenpflegepraktikum) I got to see an impressed surgeon (Oberarzt) who was a wee bit stunned by the size of the seven-day-old rip an elderly patient had in her stomach... didn't make it, alas. But it was interesting to see nonetheless; I'll spare the forum surgeon's humour from ten in the evening. God he took a lot of stuff out of that peritoneal cavity that definitely didn't belong there.

By the way, have you been in Berlin on the 3rd?

I can only imagine the nice smell of the cavity when he was doing the clean up job.

I wasn't in Berlin on the 3rd. I am rotating through the Newborn ICu now and ICU docs cannot go on strike. Next week will be one big strike but I cannot be a part of it at all. How about you? Are you coming to Sachsen? Let me know, we can arrange something in the hospital.

BTW, if you need help with physiology... I have a PhD in this area!

Gruß

Alex

I'll be recording for about 5 or 6 hours tomorrow, then there's a bit of work to finish up and beer to drink for the remainder of the weekend.

Well, yes... thankfully I was to remain on the dirty side of the BHS at all times.  Wink

Hm, worth a thought. What day? If the friendly orange "mb" folks pay my train ticket again, that'd be great. Newborn ICU, you say? That'd be pretty motivating, especially considering the lengths I can go just to see one single newborn...  Silly

Will you do me the favor of explaining to me what is alkalosis or acidosis? I got acidosis once through a huge amount of vomit over a short period of time. They told me I was hallucinating after a while and the doctor said it was due to Acidosis.

Can you also elaborate on this. See, I am very interested in medicine and it seems an important case. What is a rip?

Thanks

As for my weekend, well

Sleep.

Romantic Sex with fiancee in afternoon Bed & Breakfast.

Dinner with fiancee with losts of wine.

Local comedy in theater that promises to be funny.

Sunday--keep company to depressed, widowed mother

Well it is 7:45am here and I have done about 2 hours' work already.

When mrs eventually surfaces we will take her new motorcycle and go for some riding practice, then the two of us will go with the rest of our bike club to a get together, tonight we have a friend's 50th birthday party.

Tomorrow is Mother's Day here so taking my parents to lunch, more riding practice in the afternoon and in the evening I have a flight to PLZ.

After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

Anytime. As I said, I will be here everyday but friday, since I am on call on thursday. Youjust let me know and I will pick you up in the Bahnhof/Flughafen.

Acidosis is when the pH in your blood is low (below 7,35); Alkalosis is the opposite, a high blood pH (above 7,45). They are caused by imbalances in the metabolism and/or respiration. You were acidotic after vomiting so much because of all the fluid you have lost, so you were dehydrated. Usually vomiting produces alkalosis, since you lose HCl from the stomach and retain HCO3 in the blood. However, by severe volume depletion, you produce more lactate and other acids resulting in acidosis.

He had a whole in his stomach, probably due to a perforated ulcer. 7 days is a horrible amount of time for a case like this - the abdomen becomes full of rotten food and pus. Nasty stuff.

Well, I will get some sleep now. 36 hours on call is enough.

Good weekend everyone.

Alex

Well this morning I got out the saw and cleared up about 4 years untended growth from the front gardens - the trees are now pretty much branchless and it'a all piled up on the road side ready for next week's local pick up.

Then had to relax this afternoon with a couple of cold beers - max temp was 29C and it's supposed to be winter next month!

Getting ready for dinner now then breaking out the Guiness to watch THE Cup tonight.

Sunday, tomorrow, is Mother's Day here, so it'll be down to the local roadside flower stall first thing, then collect the folks and head over to son's place for a BBQ lunch (another fine sunny 30C forecast) and one or three (at least) ice cold Margaret River Semillon Chardonays ... hmm ...

Might end up a bit by the end of the day!

Actually, nothing this weekend except sitting around and vegging out. But NEXT weekend...

I'm taking a day trip up to Boston, flying up from CAK on FL early, and back that evening, on 717's. I love Boston, but there's another reason for this trip...

I'm taking a friend on his first ever flight! That is always so much fun! He's actually somewhat scared of flying, but he's gonna do this anyway. I think afterwards he'll realize the joys of flying.

Those who want to do something will find a way; those who don't will find an excuse.

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.
