Juergen Klinsmann, coach of the German national football team, just announced the squad for the World Cup, here we go:

Goal:

- Jens Lehmann (FC Arsenal)
- Oliver Kahn (Bayern Munich)
- Timo Hildebrand (VfB Stuttgart)

Defence:

- Arne Friedrich (Hertha BSC Berlin)
- Per Mertesacker (Hannover 96)
- Robert Huth (FC Chelsea)
- Christoph Metzelder (Borussia Dortmund)
- Jens Nowotny (Bayer Leverkusen)
- Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich)
- Marcell Jansen (Borussia Moenchengladbach)

Midfield:

- Tim Borowski (Werder Bremen)
- David Odonkor (Borussia Dortmund) Wow!
- Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich)
- Torsten Frings (Werder Bremen)
- Sebastian Kehl (Borussia Dortmund)
- Thomas Hitzlsperger (VfB Stuttgart)
- Bernd Schneider (Bayer 04 Leverkusen)
- Michael Ballack (FC Chelsea)

Offence:

- Miroslav Klose (Werder Bremen)
- Lukas Podolski (1. FC Cologne)
- Gerald Asamoah (FC Schalke 04)
- Mike Hanke (VfL Wolfsburg)
- Oliver Neuville (Borussia Moenchengladbach)

David Odonkor is quite a surprise, I didn't expect that Klinsmann would choose him. Also surprising that Kevin Kuranyi is not on the list.

Actually a good choice by Klinsmann in my opinion.

Patrick

I have never heard of any of the players, but I do remember Klinsmann as a good player.

Right, he announced last Friday that he ended his football career.

I'm also quite surprised David Odonkor made it - apparently Klinsi wanted somebody who could run all they way down to the line and get crosses in. And take on people etc. Perhaps Paul Freier would have been an option there, too (he is on the stand-by list).

Also surprised at Hanke and Asamoah - I would have seen Kuranji in front of either. But next to Klose and Podolski, Germany hasn't really got a 3rd decent striker.

I personally would have prefered experience over a new guy. Kevin Kuranyi has experience, David Odonkor has just been nominated for the first time into the main national team.

Klinsmann, bist du dir wirklich sicher, dass du mit diesem Team die WM gewinnen wirst?

Personally, I don't think this is a bright move.

I think it was an excellent decision to leave Kuranyi at home, that guy has been totally overrated for years. On the other hand I cannot understand the nomination of Hanke who has been playing a mediocre season and who won´t be able to compete during the first two matches.

I can´t say much about Odonkor except for the fact that he can run very very fast...haven´t watched him play a lot. I think that Klinsmann just had to come up with one BIG surprise to keep up the image of a person who does not fear funky and sometimes unpopular measures. If Germany performs well at the World Cup, he´s gonna be celebrated and will keep his job for at least another two years (in case he wants to). If not, well, there will be a frequent traveller less between LAX and FRA soon.

Well, let's put it this way: With both Klose and Podolski in great condition, we won't need the additional attackers anyway  Silly . Of course, either of those two can be injured, but if that were to happen, we'd be screwed anyway.

Well, this should be interesting...considering Namibia is (and never will be at this rate!) in the World Cup, I've been a German fan for a while, and will continue to be this year. Can't wait to see this crew in action!

Not really a quality player, I'm a little surprised by this.

As Germany has already won 3 world cups they have 3 stars above their crest. These stars used to be red, yellow and black (one each). Now the Germans or perhaps just Adidas are feeling so confident that they have made all the stars yellow so that adding a fourth wont be an issue.  Wink
