Yayers!

Tonight is my favourite day of the year, aka the Champions league final.

Tonight at 2045CET played at Paris, Arsenal defy Barcelona.

I'll be rooting for Arsenal but I think Barcelona will edge it. Probably 2-0 for the Spanish. I'd like to be proven wrong.

So who do you think shall win and on what score?

Thanks for posting this thread, reminds me that I have to buy a case of beer for the game tonight.  Wink

I think that Barca will win but Arsenal is always good for a surprise (especially with Lehmann in the goal  Wink).

It is going to be really interesting, I am looking forward!

Although I do have a soft spot for Arsenal, I will be cheering for Barcelona!

As for the score, lets just hope it's an open, flowing game. 3-1 to the Catalan giants.

It has the potential to be a top final, though whether it will match the FA final last Saturday remains to be seen.

As for the score, well I reckon the Gooners will shade it 2-1 with Fabregas and that man Henry on the scoresheet.

Early reports on BBC news 24 this morning were that Pires was getting the nod over Reyes.

And is Senderos injured? I think he has done so well this season despite the dodgy start against Chelsea in the Charity shield. I would not pick Campbell over him. Especially since Senderos was a key figure in the clean sheets in the run up to the final.

On a side note: did you hear about the assistant ref.? Caught wearing a Barca shirt for a photo shoot!!  Smile Moron!

As much as I'd like to think that formation will be played by Arsenal, I think Arsène will stick to the 4-5-1, with Pires/Reyes (most likely Pires to start and Reyes as substitute) on the left wing.

Senderos is fit and in the squad, but I would prefer to see Campbell and Toure at centre-back.

The champions league final may well be titled 'the ronaldinho show' if the arsenal defence and midfield don't mark him out of the game. Regardless Barca will win, by how many? Depends how much of the ball ronaldinho sees
I have a feeling 3-1 to Barca! Henry to score for arsenal before he signs a big money move to the catalan giants!

Come on Barca!

He was approached by a local newspaper when it became clear he would be the assistant referee in the final. They wanted him to pose with the shirts of both teams, but as he couldn't find an Arsenal shirt, he was told to just put on the Barca kit by the journalists.

British papers have been all over the place, wanting to buy the photo, but the local newspaper decided not to sell. It still appears some paper went ahead and printed it.

I think Arsenal 2-1.

I hope so anyway - my feelings towards them have not been all that kind for years, but i fully admit they have been excellent in the run up to the final, and fully deserve their place - a mixture of hard work, skill, finesse, and a little bit of luck. Their tactic have not been to stifle games and hope for penalties, but to soak things up and play honest attacking football when required - its good to watch, and ive been particularly impressed by Eboue at right back - very good player. This is in contrast to Liverpool last season, who I think did not deserve the amount of luck they got, and won it purely based in blind luck.

I think Barca will score first, and Henry will equalise. It will go to extra time, and someone like Fabregas will scramble in a winner. I can see Deco getting absolutely nothing out of Gilberto in the middle, and if Hleb can draw Oleguer out and make him give some free kicks away, i think they've got a great chance. Barca are the best club side in the world, and if Arsenal can do the business tonight, it will be fully deserved - you cant fluke your way past a team like that, Messi or not.

I just think Arsenal are too physically strong for Barca, and Henry is just so good at punishing defences (Barca's back four aren't the greatest IMHO). Arsenal being Arsenal quite clearly Ronaldinho and Eto'o will get a good kicking by Toure and Eboue, so I'm not convinced they will be that effective. I think Giuly could be the key for Barca.

Same here - Reyes' pace and skill from dead-ball situations is no match for Pires, though ideally Reyes would be up-front with Henry and Pires out on the left-wing.

I think you're forgetting about Puyol and Marquez, and with Edmilson sitting infront of them... Plus they have Motta on the bench who can come in in any 3 of those positions.

I think Arsenals best chances are down the wings. Oleguer and Gio (with Beletti and Silvinho in reserves) are the weak areas if you ask me. Other than that, the team is world class!

Arsenal 2-1..Henry gets both goals, Ronaldinho gets one, but Ronaldinho and Barca rendered ineffective by the Arsenal back 4 , Silva and Fabregas. Fabregas will be key for Arsenal.

Plus it's in the Henry's hometown, and he really wants to put on show in Paris.

143 SQNo1 : So its was a foul outside the penalty box, and you still would give a penalty. You Terje Hauge in disguise?
144 Linco22 : I'll need one hell of a telescope for that.....
145 Post contains images Oli80 : Actually, Cole was, but i know what you mean. Good game overall. Quite happy with the result. I was a bit anoyed Barca didn't attack more towards the
146 IBERIA747 : Forgot to mention the yellow card shown to Oleguer after he didn't touch Ljungberg...and the penalty for Barça he didn't give... Arsenal supporters
147 Bravo45 : Guys also rememeber, Arsenal's goal was on a foul that never was. Also Barcelona would have liked to have gotten the advantage and have the goal inste
148 Post contains images Q330 : CHAMPIONS!!!!!
149 Planesarecool : No, I said that even though it was outside the box, i'm surprised the ref didn't give it as a penalty anyway (judging by his other decisions tonight)
150 Oli80 : Actually, there is a third option. Let the goal stand AND send him off. Which IMO would have been the right thing to do.

152 QantasA332 : I normally wouldn't say something like this, but the final was indeed ruined by the ref. What could have been a brilliant, open, flowing 11 on 11 matc
153 Bravo45 : That is exactly what Lehmann and thus Arsenal deserved. Just what I was thinking.
154 Planesarecool : How is that the right thing to do? By letting the goal stand, he would be playing the advantage (thus disregarding the last man rule), which would me
155 SQNo1 : We already have a spoiled game thanks to the sending off of Jens, but you wanted the sending off and goal to stand, wow you are an idiot!
156 Post contains images Goodbye :
157 AdamTStarFlyer : A mediocre game by final standards but when its 11-10 it never is a real game of football, arsenal did well to hold out but they were up against it af
158 Post contains images IberiaA319 : Was almost inside the box, on the line An excellent year for them: Barça are the Spanish League Champions...and now the winners of the UEFA Champion
159 Oli80 : I am?? I have played football in various leagues and in different countries for many many years (around 20)!! and consequently have quite a bit of ex
160 Goodbye : I don't know why all you Arsenal fans are complaining - Lehmann brought about this situation with his stupidity. As I said before - in the replay you

162 SQNo1 : That is a completely irrelevant point you made there. You made a completely stupid comment about the issue about the sending off of Jens Lehmann. A r
163 Planesarecool : You say that you think the goal should have stood and he should have been sent off? By letting the goal stand, the referee would be playing advantage
164 Post contains images Oli80 : What I was trying to imply was that I've seen people being sent off for less and goals still counting. Both in amateur and professional leagues. I th
165 Gkirk : Looked more of an Arsenal fan to me. Glad to see Barcelona win, despite Arsenals cheating...
166 Arsenal@LHR : Well done to Barcelona, they proved they're the best team in Europe. But i'm bitterly disappointed though, i thought we had it in the bag until the la

169 RJ111 : That's called having your cake and eating it.
170 Post contains images TheSonntag : Well, the game was certainly not as good as the legendary final last year, but it still was entertaining. Too bad Lehmann was sent off, but I think th

172 Post contains images LOT767-300ER : Thats because there was no Polak in the goal making ridiculously impossible last minute and penalty saves I say Do the Dudek.
173 Post contains images Schoenorama : I also fail to see how by cancelling Barca's goal in the first half the referree was favouring them, not to mention the fact that Arsenal scored thei

176 Post contains images Goodbye : How nice was it at the end seeing Lodovic Giuly carrying his son around and everyone hugging and kissing him. Best part of the match IMO
177 Post contains images LTU932 : It wasn't Lehmann's fault technically, because before he got ejected, he kept that goal clean.
178 Jamotcx : Care to explain SQNo1? Your reply to what I said made no sense. Venga Barca means come on Barca. How can saying "come on barca" be wrong? Jamo
179 Thom@s : True, and had he not mistaken Eto's foot for the ball, he might have kept that record. Thom@s
