250 kph with my father's BMW 540i on the A3 at night a few years ago. I picked up my parents at FRA airport and actually I wanted to take another Autobahn home but I heard in the radio that it was closed due to some truck accident, so I decided to take the very empty A3 via Cologne.

This afternoon I drove approx. 230 kph with my father's new Audi A8 on the A44.

Fastest speed with my current car (BMW 318i) was just 130 km/h (I just got it 2 months ago, the legal limit in Switzerland is 120 km/h and I have not yet had the chance to take it across the border to Germany.)

Fastest speed overall was 225 km/h in a Mercedes E320 between Hannover and Hamburg.

Highest illegal speed that I got caught for was 110 km/h in a 70 km/h zone in Zimbabwe (they had just gotten speed guns from the German government as part of development aid package)  Embarrassment

166.71 MPH or 268 KPH on the clock at a racetrack in nomex and helmet and with onboard fire extinguishing etc. etc.

I will not go over about 80 MPH anymore in a car without air effects. Been to about 105 MPH several times in cars and motorcycles but just not interested in that anymore. Over 200 MPH steering with my feet! (Hot & high takeoff in DC-9-10 series)

Oh, and 100 MPH in a Corvette on a freeway onramp with the California Highway Patrol in the car with me.  Smile

Best I ever did was 140 mph in a Dodge R/T with a calibrated speedometer. It had the 440 CID, dual quads, torqueflight and a 2.91 rear gear....a dog off the line but it was ordered for high speed travel by the owner.

It was a frightening experience...I may have puked.

210 km/h on the A7 between Hamburg and Hannover, on the A5 near FRA, on the A20 between Rostock and Lübeck and on the A395 south of Braunschweig... that's it, I guess. But I don't really like driving this fast, it gets too stressful above 170 to 180 km/h even on an empty Autobahn. So I only do it when I'm 110% awake and in a hurry.

Maybe (neither car had a speedometer that went that high) 117 Mph in a Nissan 280ZX. It was not a race per say, but it was in the early days of I-75 in South Florida when you could find yourself alone on the road at that time.

There is one place on I-80 west of Donner summit where you can have a downhill straight and the uphill runout all to yourself on some days. (Damn California doesn't put up mile markers or I'd tell you where) So even if the CHP saw you they couldn't turn around and come back for a couple of miles. You can use the uphill stretch to get back down to normal speed.

I've used that spot to run from 75 up to 100 in a few short seconds. Then lift off and coast it out. I figure my car, coming off the last corner at about 80 could probably hit 120 in that short straight and still be slowed by the top of the hill without using brakes. Kinda fun every now and then.

When I was a young, immature lad, 110mph on US highway 151 between Iowa City and Dubuque, Iowa. Desolate, middle of the night two-lane road, no one around and certainly no cops.

That's how I found out that there was a governor on the car haha, as soon as I hit 110 the engine went to idle until it got back around 80 or 90.

Ahhh, those were the days when you couldn't possibly consider the ramifications of anything you did beyond the next few minutes. haha

God that was fun. Big grin Big grin

145kph in my mom's '00 Accord on the 407. Bayview to 9th line and back. She doesn't drive on the highway and we needed to get the deposits out of the engine so I really pushed it for a few minutes. The only time that car goes above 80kph is when me or my dad drive it.

My personal preference is no more than 120-130kph on a highway unless you have to pass another car. We drove to Barrie and back to YYZ this morning in a rainstorm, we had to pass all these long tankers. My dad went up to 140kph in his Avalon to pass them. He likes to keep it below 130kph when driving normally though. I have no intention of driving more than like 160kph on highways. Not worth the risk of losing control or getting tickets.

These days, I prefer 250 to 300 km/h as a passenger on ICE trains... haven't had a car in 5 years now, and don't miss it even a small bit.

yes  I don't have a car (few college students in Germany do) and I don't want one. If I lived back home and were unable to use my parents' cars, things would of course be different due to lack of public transportation. But for now, I'm happy with my "Semesterticket" and BahnCard 50.  Wink

My record is 230 kph on, you guessed it, the A7 Hamburg-Hanover, but also the A5 and A45 on the way to Frankfurt.
Also 220 kph on the A23 and A24, outside of Hamburg. All of those done in a Opel Vectra.
Although, normally on the speed limit-less parts, I usually just put Cruise Control at 130-150 kph, because the fuel burn simply doesn't justify doing 200 all the way between Hamburg and Frankfurt.

230kph with my Dad´s BMW 5 series two years ago between Frankfurt and Nuremburg on the A3. I made it from Frankfurt to Munich in significantly less than three hours that day...which is quite exceptional because there´s usually a massive traffic jam around Würzburg.
I really like driving fast but will only do so when the conditions are adequate. Unfortunately my own car won´t drive faster than 170kph unless it´s going downhill steeply...  Sad
