During the last world cup, the games were on between midnight at 5:00am over here on the Pacific coast. That worked pretty good for me, because I could just get up and watch the game and then go back to bed or go to work.
This time it's much trickier. Game times are 6:00am, 9:00am, and 12:00pm for the group stages. There's an English pub just a few miles from my work, so for the 12:00pm games, I can take an extended lunch. For 6:00am games, I can arrive at work a little later. The 9:00am games are the hardest. I think I will have to resort to streaming video at my desk, or streaming FiveLive radio.
Or I could TiVo the games and watch them when I get home.

Quoting Daleaholic (Reply 16): A 777 crashed in my back garden and it landed so hard all the locks, locked. It also made the keys jump through the letterbox. The fire service said they'd be at least 5 weeks!!!"

Quoting YooYoo (Thread starter): I need some good excuses to skip out of work and watch some football games during the WC / WM.
YooYoo....I can't believe a smart guy like you can't come up with a good excuse!!! LMAO
The only excuse I can come up with is....that your going to the dentist for a root canal....that way you need to go to the original appointment so they can start it and then you usually have to go back within a few days to have it finished. That is the standard procedure! You just have to make sure your appointments are scheduled at the right time and that way you could fit in 2 games....
PS - I'm taking a sick day tomorrow...LMAO (first one for me in over 9 months)

Quoting YooYoo (Reply 19): Depending on the airline, i'm sure you'll get some updates either from the flight crew (if football fans) or maybe you'll have the internet?
I must fly Ted on the 15th, so no chance. Martinair on the 16th, and KLM on the 17th
Quoting YooYoo (Reply 19): The times are far better than the Asian ones 4 years ago.
Now I can get drunk at night, and wakeup sober and watch the game (which I admit is not fun, but this will only last June 9th-17th). Unlike 4 years ago, when I was like 16-17 and I was getting drunk in the middle of the night and missing summer school classes for essential credits!

Try telling your boss you have a ticket for the game in germany, and ur flight leaves on the day of the first game and you don't get back until the day after the final group game. If germany progress, big if! Tell him you caught some virus/food poisoning whilst in germany and u won't b back until u feel 100% better, which may just happen to coincide with germany's knockout (not eventual victory) ENGLAND all the way!
Just make sure you have plenty of food/ drink in ur house, and don't answer your phone! A bit extreme but it depends how much u want to watch the games.
Or do like i have, i have two jobs and i have told each boss i can't work on the days of the england games coz im working at my other job! Pretty simple!
