Hi Folks... here's a car problem I have: my 1995 Mercury Mystique (33,000 miles!) has an electrical cooling fan that won't turn off after I turn the ignition off. Now I realize that it's not uncommon for a fan like this to run a few minutes after the engine shuts off, but for the last couple of days mine wants to run at least an hour (I disconnected the battery so as to not kill it). The temperature guage actually shows well within the normal range and the temperature outside has not been all that hot the last few days. The coolant warning light does come on, though. Plenty of coolant in the reservoir and no apparent leaks.
Thermostat, maybe? Any ideas? Well, I have an appointment with a mechanic tomorrow so I guess I'll get the bad news then.

Since you said the coolant level is fine, but the coolant light is coming on, that would sure indicate a problem to me. The coolant may not be circulating properly. Could be a water pump. There may also be something blocking the flow of coolant.
Best let your mechanic diagnose the trouble.

Actually, we get questions like this on the phone every day, we ask the customer to hold the phone closer to the car so we can diagnose it.

GEt the thermostat checked and if that doesn't do the trick then try this.
Have someone who is told up front they don't get anything but an hours labor to check the car for a problem and diagnose the solution.....if that matched with what the mechanic you meet tomorrow says then you're probably ok with that being the solution.

The thermostat inside the engine would have nothing to do with an electrical fan running. The fan itself would have a relay controlled by the ECM to turn itself on or off. I'm betting on a stuck relay.
