Live on CNN, courtesy of KABC, actress Darryl Hannah is being evicted from a walnut tree in downtown LA where she's protesting the closure of a decades-old community farm to make way for a warehouse (JUST what LA needs more of, yeah):

They say that all the nuts move to California because they can't move out any further.

California is a beautiful place, and it has many wonderful people and cultures, but -- seriously -- there are some wingnuts out here that would make your hair stand on end.

I wish Hannah would take that extra step into true nuthood and just give away all her money. Preferably to me.

She's a nice lady, and has been involved in eco-projects forever. Her house runs totally on solar energy, and she had one of the first "french-fry" cars, that used waste oil from restaurants.

I'm sure she could be, but occupying a walnut tree would not be my first choice to bring attention to ecological issues.

Maybe holding a press conference would have been too conventional, but still....

Yeah, she could have been driven to a nearby parking lot in a gas-guzzler to be able to drive the last few blocks in a hybrid, like some people have recently.  sarcastic

This is a wealthy woman, and she is putting herself in trees, Terrific. Why doesn't she buy a plot of land for these "illegal" aliens to plant and grow peace and harmony. This community farm was provided to these people on loan form the landowners. Looks as if these idiots have worn out their welcome.

Does she sniff her own farts from wine glasses?

To me, it looks like the landlord decided he needs more money. But then again, I shouldn't be torpedoeing any conclusion a conservative jumps to... right? As for the "idiots" reference, it's nice to know you think so well of people you don't know anything about. Who peed in your corn flakes this morning?

The landlord was just given his land back by the city of Los Angles after a court decision overturned a previous imminent domain seizure and has different ideas for the property than the city did.

If he wants to make the land into an amusement park that only he is allowed to attend, have at.. it is HIS land after all. Not that of the "Newly arrived hispanics". What a ludicrous euphemism...

I've read three articles on this, and never once was it mentioned that the farmers were "illegal aliens". Mainly immigrant, but not illegal.

Unlike the rest of the world, success isn't penalised as it is in most of the ultra-socialist societies. It's his land, he can do what he pleases with it.

Quoting Aloges (Reply 9):

When it appears it involves a society you don't seem to understand? Yes, you shouldn't. Once again, it's his land, he can do what he wants with it.

Quoting Aloges (Reply 9):

Well. when these self-righteous fools decided to protest the use of someones private land, they became idiots. Ralph Horowitz loaned this 14-acre land to these "urban farmers" for almost 25 years. They got this for free, and now they show their gratitude by becoming a nuisance. They are idiots.

I ate Cheerios today, dry.

Yes, I prejudged this group. I recant the statement.

Wonder if John Quigley got a little sumpin-sum?

So you're saying most of that "rest of the world" is full of "ultra-socialist societies"? Makes me wonder who is the one not understanding other societies.

I've heard it called 'the granola bar of the US' - full of fruits, nuts and flakes. Seems like a good description.

That's Oregon Speak for BUNNY HUGGER . . . one of the reasons we still have millions of dead Spruce Trees to fuel forest fires in Alaska . . .

Have no use for uber eco bunny huggers.

Darryl who did you say, Westy?

This is the same woman who wept during shooting of a movie because lobsters had been "murdered". She claimed she heard them screaming when they were put in boiling water.

I'm sorry - say what you will - she's a freak. Some people take things a bit too far!
