So it appears I scored a nicey Mazda Astina BG yesterday for only € 280 (a/c, all electrics, only 50k miles...bouahahaha !)
It runs very well indeed, the only problem being the previous ownwr shall (...) prolly die of lung cancer as both ashtrays front and back were full and the tobacco stench is overwhelming.
How do I get rid (cheaply) of such an foolish smell ?

Depends,
What type of upholstery is it?
Based on this, go to an auto store and find an upholstery cleaner. Clean your entire car. Find a matching cleaner and clean all the carpets and floors. Clean the windows and dashboard surfaces. Then place baking soda in the ash tray to absorb the smell.
My guess. I've never done this before but it sounds like it'll work....
Matt
Oh and if this only works for a small time keep repeating this until the smell is completely gone (3x max)

FEBREEZE!!!! Spray a few shots of whatever flavor you want and it will be gone. My first car was a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (1996)...I went to a party in high school on night were people were smoking in my car, febreeze took the smell away. Try it...if it doesn't work, wash your car with clorox.

Leave a ton of fabric softner sheets in the car overnight. When I got my car last summer it reeked of cigarette smoke, but that got rid of it.

get some prawns in some water and sit them out in the sun for a few weeks. Then when ready pour the water and the rotten prawns into the airconditioning intake normaly located between base of the windscreen and the bonnet.

- don't smoke
- sell your car
- place some Semtex under each seat, drop a cigarette and run
- quit breathing (caution, this is tricky!)
- burn the car, it will smell like BBQ (have to add some hot dogs to the mix though!)
- empty the ashtrays... good starter...

Try car dealerhips, car wash places, car parts and accessory stores, they probably sell a variety of products to help kill odors in cars. Maybe just clean out the car real good that is vacuum, scrub down the rugs and upolstery wash out the ashtrays. Then use a bottle of 'Frebreez' over a week and that probably wil do the trick.
I just got a new car on Monday and had the same sort of problem.
I went to Netto and bought a can of 'Botanic Garden' air freshner (99p) and used the whole can just before going to bed. This morning.....all smells nice.

Although the previous owners of my car smoke and created loads of burns on the seat. The interior looks like a brown colour due to the smoke. But most of it was removed by using an upholsery cleaner and a carpet cleaner. I managed to get rid of the smell my using an ioniser that is plugged in the lighter socket.

Throw up everywhere inside it. That smell never goes away, especially if it sits overnight, and will really mask that smoke smell.
