I'm away to go hiking for my duke of Edinburgh award tomorrow, i have used trangia fuel bottles before, the red ones with the black valve on top, but it was already filled up for me. I was given empty to fill up, but i don't know how to open it so i can pour the fuel in.
Any advice is urgently needed.

thank you

Dominic

If they are still the type that I used to use, I take it you are having trouble untwisting the top?
Push a rod or bar or stick of some sort through the hole and turn it. It gives you the leverage you need.

So nobody knew what you were talking about but in the end you managed to open the bottle top by applying a bit more force. Who would have thought!

Well i'm sure the all knowing Myt332 would have figured it all out

Look at the picture, look like a standard bottle to you?

I thought there was some special method to fill them up but in the end i found out there wasn't.

In future if you want to make useless comments that don't do anyone any good, please don't do it in response to one of my posts.

EDIT:TYPO

In the future don't tell your elders what to do and read the instructions first! Now go get back to your homework. If it's on opening bottles then you now know how to!

I didn't tell you what to do, read my post again and you might just understand.

Quoting Myt332 (Reply 9):

I was issued with two of these bottles that had already been used previously, so therefore the box wasn't included, and the box would have contained the instructions.

Quoting Myt332 (Reply 9):

Maybe you should go to the army, you really seem to like telling people what to do, i've already done my homework btw.

Good night

Good man! I am the NZ National Director, have worked for DoE for 11 years in various capacities.

This happens if the bottle (and contents) are warm when the lid is put on, happens if it is done in direct sunlight, the bottle will vapourlock as it cools down.

Probably too late now as you may well be on your way but there are two things you can do.

1: Keep bottle in the shade so it doesn't get hot.

2: Open the valve to let the vapourlock suck in some air before you open it.

What level are you at..... Bronze?

The rain and clouds kept it cool.  Wink

Yeah, i'd like to go onto silver straight away, because i've got the chief scout award which is equivalent to bronze, but the school won't let me.
Hopefully do silver next year.

Not actually the school's decision but we get this a lot unfortunately.

Keep it up anyway, won't do you any harm!
