I wish they'd hurry and open in Oregon! We have to wait until sometime in 2007/2008. I'm hungry for meatballs, dammit.

I saw on the news when they opened the store in Moscow. They were interviewing some old ladies, who seemed quite dissapointed. It turns out, they liked what they saw, but they didn't understand why everything was so very expensive. The Swedish reporter then told the ladies that the prices were in rubles, not in dollars. The women started crying and hugged the reporter...
It's stories like this that really feeds our Swedish egos...

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

...but they won't tell you how to put it together! And it'll disintegrate the first time you try to move it!

Does anyone know where IKEA gets their raw materials from? I'm mainly interested in where the wood and textiles come from.
Quoting KROC (Reply 5): Well done Ohio. Way to remain a few steps behind Michigan as always.
If having an IKEA is what separates the forward states from the backward states in your view, well, that's one heck of a narrow-minded view of the world. It really sticks out on an international forum like this one.

Actually, IKEA is a very forward thinking company when it comes to sustainability. Their wood doesn't come from old growth and they aim for as much renewability and recyclability as possible.

Actually Miss Keller, I said "as always" which would mean more than just a shitty furniture store.
Quoting KingAir200 (Reply 14): I think the post you're referencing was a joke.
It was, but people like SATX with there humor deficiencies would rather take a burn that understand its a facetious comment.

And enjoy the covered parking and loading area. Great store in Seattle!
Just stopped at the new one in Sacramento on Saturday. Someone needs to sell cold drinks in the thousand acre, hundred degree parking lot.
Quoting N1120A (Reply 15): Their wood doesn't come from old growth
Which may sound virtuous but it is a little like bragging that your omelettes don't contain dinosaur eggs. You just about need to invade national parks to find old growth anything.

Of course I can. However, it's a 200-mile drive in each direction, that makes it difficult when all you want is a bag of frozen meatballs, or return something that just didn't work out.

I guess for the time being, you'll just have to settle for one of the many hippie futon shops in the Portland area...
Better to be nouveau than never to have been riche at all.
25 CO7e7: That's great news. But in my opinion, i don't see them opening in Cleveland... that's because the Pittsburgh store serves north east Ohio and Detroit

27 DLPMMM: I don't think the gay population in the middle of Ohio would be large enough to support an Ikea store. Cincinnatti would probably be a better choice.

32 N1120A: I agree that Columbus would be the best choice. A large percentage of Ikea's clientelle is made of college students who need cheap stuff that moves e
