Ok I need a little help here.
Mum and myself are planning an holiday for next year and would like to include Indonesia. However neither of us know much about the place so if anyone on here has any info on visiting Jakarta we would greatly appreciate it.

I would change planes, and continue on to Bali. Then save the last two days to see Jakarta. The traffic jams can be quite bad, and even worse in the rainy season when many of the main streets flood. The pollution is bad,and be careful of which taxi cabs to use (Bluebird was the best).
I lived in Indonesia from '94-99, had a office in Jakarta, but lived in Surabaya. We went back to visit in 2004,and even Surabaya was depressing . Bali is worth the trip.

There's not much touristy in Jakarta but I think it's still a pretty interesting city. Some interesting things are the Mosque, Washington Monument type thing (forgot the name...locally known as Suharto's last erection?), and nearby docks where a lot of fishing boats moor (can't remember where). I only spent about two days there so I didn't see too much.
