So it appears I quite like my new acqusition except for the nasty-looking steel wheels/plastic wheel trims.

I have sourced some OEM wheels that look like this :


Or I could fork out 200 Euro more and get a complete high-performance tire/wheel package.

Thoughts ?

Go for the complete performance package. Those rims look shit. Perhaps you could consider lowering it.

Stick with OE! Aftermarket wheels are a PITA unless they are OE spec or very close to it. Differences in tire OD will effect the Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) and in some cases can alter auto. trans shift points, speedo readings and limiters. Too wide of a tire/rim will rub the fender (or "wing") , possibly cutting the tire or bending some metal. Worst of all, wide wheels are very difficult to balance (dynamically) and typically have incorrect "offset".

The "offset" dimension is critical. Offset refers to the center line of the wheel mounting surface (to the vehicle hub) in relation to the surrounding rim. Wide wheels will have more rim area protruding from the center and will cause premature wheel bearing failure.

OE dimension wheels fitted with a tire one or two ratios larger is fine. I think the wheels you have are good looking and possibly you can have them polished to a chrome like appearance for looks.

A proper wheel/tire shop should be able to give you a good set of aftermarket wheels and tires that will perform as well or better than OEM wheels.

Even though they don't do business in your neck of the woods I suggest checking out . Their website is filled with tons of information on wheels, wheel fitment, etc...

In California there are probably more rice Civics than regular ones and if you get a pair of tasteful lightweight aftermarket rims, i think those should be better than the OEM ones.

If you're going to replace the 14" inchers with another set of 14 or 15" ones, go with OEM though, so that it doesn't look ridiculous. If you're going for 17" though, aftermarket is the best and only way to go, imho.
