Took the family to see Superman Returns last night, and it wasn't as horrible as I'd expected. The references to aviation were not as typically ignorant as in most Hollywood movies, the acting was OK and the plot was pretty good. Overall I'd say it was well worth it. And I'm glad they picked a previously unknown actor to portray Superman - he's eerily similar to Christopher Reeves.

The special effects were incredible to say the least!

Anyone else seen it / going to see it? Post your thoughts here!

The UK Release is not until 14th July 2006. I'm more looking forward to seeing Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest to be honest, that's released here on 6th July.

I'll see it this weekend. I've been a collector of the Superman titles from DC since I was 14 (during the Doomsday/Death of Superman storyline), and hoped that a 5th movie would be made. Chris Reeve will always be Superman, but I'm looking forward to this movie.

Saw it last night. IT was an ok movie, not great. The guy who played Superman did a pretty good job. However, the girl who played Lois was not too impressive. She never smiled once, and overall just seemed like a hardass. Kevin Spacey is a good actor, but I didn't like how Lex Luthor was used in the movie. I would recommend it to anyone really.

Just my .02

I'll be seeing it tonight. It looks half-way decent, so hopefully I'll enjoy it.

checkmark  I've actuallly stopped watching the new trailers they've put out because they've started to give away the little parts that really make the movie worthwhile. One shot in particular made me yell, "Arrgh!" Not a piratey "Arrr", mind you--just a regular ol exasperated, "Arrgh!"  Wink

Oh well i'm in this film!

Back in November 2005 I was walking about Sydney and I found myself on the open set of the new Superman movie! They were filming the scene in Manhattan where Superman flies down the street and everybody in the traffic jam gets out of the car and stares up. I'm on the sidewalk/pavement! Big grin

It was funny seeing NYPD cars in the middle of Sydney with Australian registration plates on them.

I haven't actaully seen the film yet of course.

I just saw it. Loved every second of it. When the opening credits played, it literally sent a chill down my spine hearing that music.

Same here.. I saw it opening night, and loved every second of it as well.. But no chills down my spine tho..

SPOILER AHEAD!!!

That wasn't no GD 777!!!!!!! Not even a modified one. The cockpit was practically Airbus without a sidestick, the fuselage was way too thin (not to mention the modified tail) and if it WAS a Boeing at all, the couplings would NOT have failed. It isn't an airbus after all  Wink

As for the rest of the thread (Pirates of the carribean etc- Which I am lookign forward to seeing..)

my favourite line:

"We have superman sighting in Metropolis, Houston and Gotham"

A reporter said that (or to paraphrase a word or two) after his return.

NOt as good as "Is this the Planet Houston?" line by Lord Zod S2

I find these obscure Houston references Big grin

I already watched it in IMAX 3D, granted it was the test version my brother had just spent the last 30 hours building, but hey, we had an IMAX theater all to ourselves, and you know what, I like it.

I had high expectations for the movie going in, and the movie met my expectations. Kevin Spacey was great as Lex Luther, I'd say even better than Gene Hackman. Parker Posey had a great role as Kitty - perfect level of comic relief. Lois Lane was protrayed weak, and well, the Superman role really isn't that tough to play - you just have to get the smirk right. Superman is a dry character with little range in emotion and all the superpowers can be CGI'd. Anybody with the right body type and a big can of hairspray can play Superman well. The action scenes were up to par with Superman, and they threw in a couple of twists to the normal story - exactly what I expected out of the movie.

Yay I cant wait for Pirates of the Caribbean to come out!!! one week left...In the mean time Superman is an option but....Im not really sure about it. A man wearing red y-fronts on top of his lycra is abit off putting but I did see and advert which had an aircraft scene...so may be....
