Good thread!

Any team that spanks the $200M+ payroll is good with me.

Hopefully it was at Yankee Stadium.

What a 76th birthday present for George! If the Tigers and White Sox keep winning maybe no post season for the Yankees, that will make George happy.

That's nothing.

A few years back in the Bronx, we beat the Yankees 22-0. This was a nail-biter compared to that.

And, a plug for Pronk: Travis Hafner how is hitting .318, with 24 HR, 70RBI. Depending what a few others did tonight in the AL. he could be in the top 10 in batting average, top 3 in HR's, top 3 in RBI, and he's #1 in the AL in On Base Pct. Oh, and he's only the 5th player in MLB history to have 4 Grand Slams before the All Star Break.

Now, why is it he has to come down to "The Last Vote" on ESPN to make the All-Star team.

VOTE FOR PRONK!  bigthumbsup

Man, I wish I could have seen that game. I imagine birthday boy
George will be looking to fire Torre, Cashman, the batboys and
secretaries.

Falcon, you guys got yourselves a player in Grady Sizemore. Our
local minor league team used to be affiliated with the Expos. Saw
Sizemore play quite a few games in "A" ball. Another keeper from
that trade is Cliff Lee. The first time I saw him play he was matched
up against Josh Beckett in Beckett's first start in the Fla. State League.
It was one of the best pitched games I've ever seen in the minors.

My candidate for "The Last Vote" is Verlander from the Tigers.

Too bad they couldn't have figured out that they had a gem in Brandon Phillips-although to be fair, Phillips dug himself into the doghouse here. Dude is having an all-star season.

Now, had Phillips been here, and doing what he's doing in Cincy, you would have had a steal of a trade a few years back: Bartolo Colon for those three guys. Colon is a helluva pitcher, but you have 2 guys who are playing like all stars, and one who was 5th in the Cy Young voting last years.

Not bad.

the Reds made a couple of good pickups this year. Besides Phillips
they did good getting Arroyo from the Bosox for Mo Pena.

I also saw Phillips when he played down here for the Brevard Cty.
Manatees. It's nice seeing the kids you watch in the minors make
it to the show and do well.

Damn right! I was looking at his stats this year-- and they are amazing. Here they are:
2006--Cleveland Indians--Games 78--AB's 267--Runs 66--Hits 85--Doubles 16--Triples 1--HR's 24--RBI's 70-- Total Bases 175--BB's 69--OBP .460--Slugging .655--AVG.318 (MLB.com)

He and Grady are having great years... Only if we can get Victor going in the second half, we will have some great fun

Was a night for big scores I guess. Angels beat Seattle 14-6 while the Dodgers beat Arizona 11-3 (after beating them 10-4 last night). BTW, Nomar is still over .360 and added a hit and a run tonight, not to mention having another errorless night (he has only committed 1 all year). So, even more so that Hafner, Soriano or Verlander. VOTE NOMAR

Actually, it was a fun day for all true baseball fans who just love watching the most overpaid team in baseball get their bell rung.

This is likely the only thing you and I will agree on. I am very glad to see Nomar enjoying a new lease on life with my team.

I love the Indians. This crushing defeat of the Yankees meant Yankee Fan here at work would have nothing to say about the Mets recent troubles.  Wink Think I'll go drop a vote for Hab now.

Friggin' Hafner. Now I'm not voting for his ass.  Wink Billy Wagner will get it. *Sigh*
