Going back to when I was a kid, I've always had a fear of throwing up. Not a normal, "Eh, it sucks," fear - no, I'm talking about the "I'd rather have a broken arm, it scares me so bad," fear of throwing up.
Naturally, this fear has kept me far, far away from roller coasters. My rationale? If there was a chance I'd puke, I wanted no part of it.
Until this weekend.
My fiancee and her cousin dragged me to Six Flags Magic Mountain outside of Los Angeles. Jamie and her cousin Kari were thrilled about the prospect of spending the day on rollercoasters.
Myself and Kari's husband Cody? We were unthrilled at the thought.
Anyway, I convinced myself I'd try one, just to see if my stomach could handle it. I got into line with them at the first rollercoaster we saw.
Something called Goliath.
I felt fine watching it from the ground. No worries - it didn't even have a loop in it! No problem; I wasn't going to be upside-down, so I'm figuring I'm home free.
Then we get on. And up we go - and the whole way, I'm hearing the taped presentation in the boarding area looping through my head:
"...TWO HUNDRED FIFTY-FIVE FOOT DROP....EIGHTY-FIVE MILE PER HOUR TOP SPEED.."
Get me the f**k off this thing!
Too late. Up we go.
WOW! What a view! Spectacular scenery. Hey, here's the drop. No problem. Just a small, easy, little...
HOLY MARY, MOTHER OF GOD!!!!
So precisely three minutes later I've discovered the following:
1. I will not throw up on rollercoasters after all
2. My fiancee is a sadist for not informing me that Goliath is one of the fastest coasters with one of the highest drops in the world, and probably NOT the one I'd want to "test" myself on
3. Magic Mountain is a horrible place to be on July 4th weekend
So - did I do okay? Sure. Will I go again? F**K NO!
It's not the thought of puking - it's those damned drops that have me avoiding these things from now on.
That, and the "thug factor" at Magic Mountain. That place is gangstariffic.

I'm with you . . .
No Rollercoasters for me.
Aside from the height factor, I'm not thoroughly convinced the 17 year pin head with the green and orange spiked hair and the piece of metal hanging out of his/her nose and lip running the damn things isn't snorting something not quite legal.

I'll stay on the ground - thanks.

Ive never been on a rollercoaster in my life, and I dont particularly want to. I dunno why, probably just the idea of queuing for an hour to go on a 3 minute ride doesnt appeal. Im not a big fan of theme parks, and probably count the number of times ive been to one on one hand.....

I would rather have somebody beat the living crap out of me than go on a roller coaster. Was dragged on to two about 3 or 4 years ago. One of my friends, who did not drag me on there but was there, said that halfway through the ride he looked over at me and thought, "Texan is never going to speak with any of us ever again." I loathe roller coasters.

I usually go on Rollercoasters....I don't have any fears. You can always tell the people who wished they'd never gotten on the ride in the first place by the fear that is on their faces!!

Pretty much sums up my feelings about them too. I don't get sick on them, but I do feel very ill afterwards and if I don't enjoy it then I see no point in going on them. Plus, as Nighthawk said, the idea of spending hours queing up is also pretty pointless in my mind.

I had many fears about them myself, but when I finally tried one out, I found that I absolutely loved them...too bad I dont live closer than an hour or so to any rollercoasters so I rarely get to ride them, but hey, you never know til you try!

I hate them, too. There's no point in standing in line 95% of the time for a ride that's over faster than you can adapt to the g-forces. A rough and bumpy flight or approach however...

I've been on a grand total of one roller coaster in my life.....and thank goodness it was rather tame. It was the old wooden coaster on the Santa Cruz, CA boardwalk, the same one featured in the closing scenes of Clint Eastwood's "Sudden Impact". My first one.....and my last one.
The thought that I'm not down with the speed and the drops of these things should be enough to keep me forever off them.....that and the congenital heart defect I was born with...

I like rollercoasters, and Magic Mountain used to be an excellent park, but - as you mentioned - the gang factor has now made it an incredibly unpleasant place to be, and I would put money on that being one of the driving factors that have led Six Flags to put the park up for sale.
Knott's in Buena Park is as good as it gets for me now, and in fact their 'X' ride is pretty good. 0-80mph in 2.7 seconds. YES!

I don't like big roller coasters and I have found that as I get older I get motion sick more. Not a lot, but I used to be pretty much immune to it under any circumstances.

Quoting Atrude777 (Reply 20): I just went to six flags a week ago in STL. So much fun. We rode batman 3 times in a row. I could sleep on batman!
Funny, as I was riding it a few years ago I was trying to figure how to unbuckle the damn seat thingee in the middle of the ride so I could just go ahead and get off the ride. Dying would have been ok. Would have kicked the ever living shit out of my friends had I been able to control any of my limbs and stop them from shaking. Drank to calm down instead. Left the park, went home, and drank more. Then I slugged John

I have found that there are many things that give me severe motion sickness. Anything that goes in circles is one, swings are another, riding in backseats or passanger seats on cars, certain computer games, etc. But fast roller coasters are (fortunately) not one of them.

hehehe, i slugged my cousins wife for not letting me go AGAIN.
Oh and to be a bitch, i called Texan on the phone, after I got off batman and ragged him about riding it. He told me to shut the f--- up (something to that degree, maybe he was a bit nicer..) or he was gonna kick me , he said he wasn't feeling well after hearing about my oh so wonderful ride on batman.

I love them...
I've been on one like Goliath.
GeForce in Germany.
It was amazing.
I loved it.
Living in Florida I go to Orlando a lotand I've been on The Hulk at Islands of Adventure and that is amazing too. Kraken at SeaWorld is a floorless rollercoaster and it is also really cool with 7 inversions.

I love roller coasters and I really want to try out Magic Mountain's new coaster, Tatsu.
I do have to agree with you on the fact that there are a lot of thugs at Magic Mountain, but for people that love roller coasters, it's like a paradise. Best time to go there is on the weekdays, especially in early June or early September.
