Coke Zero Soon Available In Germany - Is It Good?

I've just read the press release section of the German Coca-Cola website and saw that Coke Zero will be available here from the end of this month.

Usually I am not a big fan of these light and diet drinks so what can I expect from Coke Zero?

Does it taste like Coke Light (Diet Coke) and does it taste good at all? What is the difference between Coke Light and Coke Zero?

Thanks for any info!

Patrick

I like Coke Zero. It tastes more like regular Coke than Diet Coke, and the zero calorie+zero carb suits my diet. Now, if they made a caffeine free version, I'd be extremely happy  Smile

It has a different taste altogether. I'm not fond of it at all, but it's all a friend of mine will drink now.

People who order Diet Coke with a McDirt's meal should be kicked out of the place on the spot.

Anyone who shouldn't be having the amount of calories that's in the regular versions of his/her preferred foods and drinks should think about eating smaller portions instead of switching to that light/diet/super-hyper-fat-free crap.

Sounds good, I will definitely try it. So I guess it's the same like with Red Bull products, I simply can't taste a difference between the regular Red Bull and Red Bull Sugarfree (I bought a whole pallet of Red Bull Sugarfree at Metro today because it was damned cheap btw. Big grin).

It doesn't actually matter if you order regular Coke, Coke Light, Fanta, or Sprite at McDreck, every drink there tastes like water anyway.  Wink

I found that it tastes like a regular Coke but slightly flat.

As for the differences between the various lines here is the breakdown...

1. Coke Classic - Full sugar and caffeine.
2. Coke Classic (Caffiene Free) - All the sugar and none of the caffeine.
3. Diet Coke including all flavor varieties (Lime, Lemon, Vanilla, Black Cherry Vanilla, Caffeine Free) - This line trends more towards women at least in the opinion of the Marketing department at Coke.
4. Diet Coke with Splenda - As with the other DC line this one trends towards women who want Splenda vs. NutraSweet. IMO it tastes horrible and wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy.
5. C2 - Half the carbs and all the caffeine. This line is supposed to trend towards folks on a low carb lifestyle. No real trending for male or female.
6. Coke Zero - None of the sugar and all of the caffeine. This line is supposed to trend towards males.

While I agree with you on the smaller portions, especially in the US where portion size has gotten out of control, I have no problems with diet drinks. I drink them because the overload of sugar in a regular Coke makes me sick to my stomach. With the diet variety I can get the taste, none of the calories, and miss out on the upset stomach. I don't drink it so I can eat more fatty foods though I'm sure many folks do it for that reason.

Fine by me - as long as you don't drink Diet Coke "because it's healthier". Folks, it's just less bad for you; if you want healthy, drink water and fresh juice.

Coke Zero tastes like regular Coke. Some people actually claimed that Coke used the Coke Light formula to make Coke Zero but that is plainly untrue having tasted both products. What they did is take the flavoring formula from Coke Classic and sweeten in with a blend of Aspartame and Ace-K. It has the same sharp, slightly lemony taste of Coke Classic.

Total agreement, though I may wish it upon you DeltaGator  Silly. Just Kidding, I would save it for Pope. Anyway, this stuff was all you could find for Diet Coke for about a week in New Orleans as Coca-Cola really seemed to be pushing the stuff. People hated it so much that they saw a huge reduction in sales and the bottling guys saw a massive increase in complaints. I actually wrote Coca-Cola about it and they confirmed the complaints in so many words. After a week, Diet Coke with Splenda was almost as rare as Tab

The juice you buy in the store is nearly as bad for you as regular coke, particularly if it comes from concentrate and has been cooked down to essentially kill all the goodness. Diet Coke is definately better for you than regular Coke and unless you are squeezing your own juice, it really isn't any worse for you than many juices.

I forgot the Totally Artificial Beverage. That one definitely trends towards women and has made a resurgence in the last few years. No Nutrasweet here but instead good old cancer causing Saccharine.

I don't know why so many people say this. It tastes different to me, and even Coke says it does:

"The drink will be sweetened partly with a blend of aspartame and acesulfame potassium. Aspartame is a key ingredient in Diet Coke, but a spokesman for the Atlanta-based company said Coca-Cola Zero will have a unique taste."

I walked into my local petrol filling station the other day and they had a offer on this "coke zero" stuff.. Needless to say I bought some and to be honest it wasn't that bad.. I find regular bottled coke a little to gassy, especially given my condition and this zero crap was ok..

The sweetener has very little to do with the flavor. The reason they called it a unique taste is because they wanted to differentiate from Diet Coke for all the people who don't like it (I have no idea why, Diet Coke is the best beverage ever). Essentially, C2 was an experiment. They wanted to gauge public reaction to a beverage using the Coke Classic formula but using less sugar. In fact, C2 blended Aspartame, Ace-K and Splenda with sugar. Once it was found that Splenda and Cola doesn't mix, they axed it and went ahead with the full sugar free version.

Actually, TaB has had a strong cult following for years which is why Coke never actually killed the stuff. It was actually originally sweetened with cyclamates which were the real bad guys. Saccharin was recently cleared of its bad name, owing to much better experiments being performed and no longer requires a warning label. BTW, that new TaB energy drink is absolutely foul.

Coke got a bad rep down here for a viral marketing campaign which pissed quite a few people off, as the people behind the campaign were actively spamming message boards, blogs and guestbooks. It backfired on them in huge way

Of course it is going to taste a little different, much like Coke flavored with HFCS tastes difference from Coke flavored with Cane or Beet sugar. The point is to get it close
