A friend and ex-employee of mine (a 25 yr old English girl) just sent me an e-mail from Iraq, she is supposed to be a Military Lawyer but the last few lines of the e-mail were.......

"I've been doing convoys as top cover and vehicle commander. Nearly got blown up by a roadside bomb whilst I was doing top cover. Since I wasn't hurt it's become a little bit of a war story, but no-one back home knows about that yet because I think they'd freak out. I'll tell them when I get back in one piece."

Moral of the story?.......Always read the small print before signing up for things!!!

The possibility of getting shot at or blown up if you join the military is not part of the fine print. It's part of the job description.

Good luck to her and all alliance troops in Iraq.

Point taken, but Military Lawyer?

Perhaps she should be shot just for being a lawyer (  Wink ), but I doubt that really is part of the job description. Godspeed to her.

OOOOOOOhhhh!!!!
You're bound to get a good 'ol fashion Flamin' for that comment.
Maybe she should consider becoming an Attorney?  Wink

Jafa, send her a "CARE" package with goodies and personal items she needs. Simple things like lotions, specialty cookies or any hard to get items. Ask BABS or UH60 what is in high demand over there.  Smile

For a women: dildos and douche.

Unfortunately, I would be rather uncomfortable in a box for the long ride over, otherwise, a BAB care package works wonders with the ladies.

Can you suggest something that Jafa could send her as a CARE pkg. that an Infantrywoman would appreciate over there? BABs doesn't want to go back.
...and forget about a fishing pole.

Hook her up with UH60. I'll bet he could use some non-military action.  Smile

On second thought, I'll do it for my country.  Wink

Usually, things like baby wipes, q-tips, etc. are greatly appreciated. Since she's a woman, maybe a fragrance that she likes, that she's not had in a while. Chocolates are a good choice. Just pretend she's back at home and send her what you would ordinarily.

I'll be on standy if she needs me,

BAB

I think his wife would object . . .  silly

Baby Wipes are a favorite . . .

Simple solution is to ask her what she needs . . . or what she wants . . .

Better to send something she'll use.

No Sir, it is NOT "part of the job description" of a lawyer. The young lady however indeed possibly missed the "part" in which it for sure is stated "and all activities required in connection with .... duty" or thelike.

Good idea Mr 1011, at present she is in need of letters, I use a system called "E-Bluey" which is a BFPO e-mail service but they print the letter and put it in an envelope over in Iraq.

What shocked me was that out of the 20 or so mutual friends we share from the time we spent working together, only 2 of us have been writing to her.

It was reading UH60's posts that made me realise the importance of contact with the outside world.

I will check to see if Whiskey, Chocolate and Cigarettes are allowed in CARE pkgs and ship some out to her, might get BAB to hand deliver eh?  Smile
