Someone wants to get me a Camcorder (or another companies equivilent) as a wedding gift, but I have no idea about the models, specifics, functions, etc. pertaining to this technology.

Looking for something simple, entry-level, but will provide good quality video that can be played on the TV or computer. Costing $300-$600.

Any insight, comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Here are some sony cameras. The prices range from $240-$1500. I'm pretty sure the prices are in U.S dollars.

I got a pretty decent Samsung mini-DV for $350 a couple of years ago...does just great for the stuff I want it for; family holidays and occassions, basic editing and burning to DVD etc. Good picture, good sound, some nice on-camera functions.

I'm looking more for information regarding what to look for, what specifications, what model, etc. I know nothing about camcorders or the like and so all the numbers, model types, capabilities are jibberish to me.

Thats probably the type of camera functions that is geared towards myself. However, in the past couple of years with advancing technology, do you still feel that your camera is adaquate or "out-dated"?

I haven't really seen anything new on the market that does things better than mine. Certainly there are those that do more than mine, but in all honesty, with the Mini-DV capability of firewireing everything on to my PC, what more capability do I need? Mine is the Samsung SC-D23. It's small - a little bigger than the palm of my hand - was a good price, has a good picture and good sound...it does everything I need it to do and it does it well. I don't feel that it's outdated, it certainly doesn't look outdated, and last time I checked, places like Best Buy and Target were still carrying it. If I wished for anything, it would be a greater optical zoom. It has 10x optical, 33x digital, but with the digital zoom things start to get grainy.
