Who here is a Harry Potter fan? I've read all four books, including the first one twice! My favourite is book two, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. A colleague got me interested in reading them 18 months ago & lent me the first book, then I got my sister and Mum into reading them as well! Joanne Rowling is such brilliant storyteller.
Can't wait for the movie to be released here in Australia. It won't be a total suprise though as there has been a number of articles, trailers and 'spoilers' already but hey I still wanted to see all of them!

I usually go by the philosophy "if something is THIS overhyped, it can't be that good". At least about books. The best way to prevent me from buying a book is to put it in a row with 50 others by the same author...
Put the same book in a "Buy 2 get 1 free" stand with mixed authors, on the other hand, and I buy it. That's how I got to be a Pratchett fan...
For Harry Potter, the entire setting is just too unappealing. I hate books/movies about witch schools, in the style of (British) private schools. Couldn't even stand them as a kid. And when they come up with weird names just for the sake of making you choke on the pronunciation.....

I see your point Ikarus. Personally I'm not normally one to read books because they are hyped. I read No. 1 after no. 3 had been out a while, and & I remember the hype surrounding the earlier ones but it didn't read it because of that as stated. When I read no. 1 though I was right into it from the first chapter!

BTW the film is AWESOME!!! I didn't think it would be my 'thing' and was going along because of the hype but it is a truly enjoyable film. In fact, I would say it is my favourite film of the last 12 months (maybe I'm just a big kid at heart).
Go see it. Now!!!
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?
