It WAS addictive. I played it on my old IBM325 for three years, in between school, homework and hockey. I even played it while I was listening to Pens' games! My version never had the sound of the soldiers, just the gunshots. Supposedly, when you hit the soldiers, and they died, they'd say "Mein leben!" and the big blue guy at the end of the game said "Guten Tag!" before he started pumping his double-barreled machine guns into you. Thank God for cheat codes! I wonder if I could get it for Windows95 or WindowsXP?

I think you're referring to the ORIGINAL Wolfenstein! A newer, modern version came out a few years ago called "Return to Castle Wolfenstein". The picture in the original post is of it.

Thats true.Found it very Realistic. The Single player game was very Interesting & complex too.Situations face & thinking required too made this Interesting.
The Multiplayer game was good too, normally used on net,but not as good compared to the Single player one, according to me.

Totally cool!!!! You can still play Wolfenstein 3D in it's entirety, on a modern PC. Download it here.

http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/game/15

I must admit, the game is difficult without the ability to strafe. Nonetheless, it is fun to play it all over again.  Smile

After downloading the distribution, you must run DEICE.EXE to create a wolf3d folder on your desktop. From there run the INSTALL.BAT file inside the wolf3d folder. You will then find the operable folder on the drive you select during installation (there will be no shortcut icons placed on your desktop LOL). At least you don't have to alter your autoexec.bet and config.sys.  rotfl

I remember those days of Wolf 3D on DOS. The controls on this downloadable version seem to be totally out of whack. I can't seem to have control of the keyboard, it just seems to do what it wants. Anyone experience that?

I think that is because the original DOS had control of the hardware exclusively. I have been playing the original DOOM (downloaded from the same website) for the last few nights (quite fun actually) but am stumped as to why the mouse now controls movement as well as aiming. Also the sound card cause many pauses while sounds are being produced. I think this is due to the fact that WinXP won't allow a DOS emulator window have exclusive access to the hardware. Pity a quick F8 during boot no longer allows you to get a "real" DOS mode startup. With all my old floppies, I don't have a single usable DOS kernel on any of them.  crying

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is excellent! I didn't know it existed until I read this thread at the end of last week. So I went and purchased it this weekend and spent most of Saturday on the X-Box playing it. Fantastic game!

I remember good old Wolf3D. Spent many hours playing that, and as time went on, started playing Doom. Now I'm all grown up and supposed to work and be a productive part of society. No more time for playing video games  Sad

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

Agreed, classic. Used to play that (and Doom) while listening to Rammstein many years ago. The two worked really well together.  Smile
