It's one of the bigger wind waves that are possible, but it's deffinately real and they do happen. But you have to be way out there to catch them, and they only happen in certain places. That's why the guy was toed out on the watercraft. That wave is about 8-10 meters (30 feet?).

I've been in sea swells that were easily 60' high - in the bering sea - so a 50' wave is certainly believable.

I did some research, and the biggest wave ever witnessed by humans is listed as 1,720 feet tall!!! What's even more amazing is that there are several eyewitnesses, including two who RODE the wave and survived...
