That's why you should consider the large Jewish population in Israel that emigrated from Russia. There are very trong ties between these two countries.
In terms of business: Israel is the "more fluent" business partner for Russia, compared to Lebanon and Syria. Russia wouldn't want to lose the revenues from Israel and be left with little income that could be generated from Lebanon/Syria.
Needless to say, Russia has been remarkably quiet throughout this whole crisis.

Yup - probably as a concession from Bush et al to "turn a blind eye" should Chechnya pop up in the future or maybe they sold out the Ukraine or something... For some reason Russia has expressed a great interest in that country.
