Ever Been Stuck In A Lift?

I saw this article...
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/north/story...2006/07/24/man-elevator-fatal.html

And thought, thank God I have never been stuck in a lift.
Have you?

Also, when I was in Canada, I noticed that several lifts had a 'STOP' button, and an access hatch in the ceiling. I have never seen such things in British lifts.

Yet, in many US films the stop button and hatch are regularly used by Bruce Willis when in a tight spot.

Ive been stuck in a lift once, with a very cute girl.

The thing of dreams, I hear you all think. Well, no.

The thing was, she stank. Literally and very much so, like she hadnt bathed for a couple of weeks and was incontinent (the lift had smelt fine without her in it). She was georgeous but untouchable, well - unbearable  Smile

Arghghghghghghhg!

What's this about then? Did he get seduced by a stunner in a lift?

Quoting RichardPrice (Reply 2):
and was incontinent

That must have been rough man. I was on the bus only last week and the guy sat at the front was clearly a piss head and had shat himself. The smell was unbearable. The seat was stained too.

 Sad

I've never been, fortunately. All the lift in my building (which I currently don't have to bear being anywhere near to Big grin ) has done so far, maybe two or three times, is to stop suddenly, stand still for a brief moment, reset the "software", go down to the basement and act normally again.

I have never exactly been stuck but I was about 10 years old and the lift stopped online with the flooring so I had 2ft of floor in the centre, 3 ft of floor 12 at the top and 3ft of floor 11 at the bottom.

When I was 3, we were at my Aunt and Uncles wedding. Now she is a total bitch and we all hate her. She felt it was necessary to send all the family, bridesmaid and herself up to the second floor in the Freight Elevator before the cocktail hour started for some last min photos. Well of course the elevator got stuck, and no one cared. It was dusty, her makeup was running from her crying, and it took close to 2 hours before the fire dept got us all out

Every 6 months or so I talk to my dad and he just cracks up when we remember the story.

and 20 years later.....DIVORCED!!!!

yup happened to me, I was in Prince ALbert, Saskatchewan for a hockey tournament and the brainiacs that we are decided to see how many people we could fit. It turns out you can fit 16 people in an elevator. We were stuck for about 20 minutes before the doors were pryed open for us.

I've been stuck in elevators at least 3 times. 2 of those times were bearable as I was only in there for about 1 hour. But the 3rd time was a complete nightmare. I had to wait 4 hours before help came. LOL. I wasn't worried or anything like that, but I was getting impatient. Thank god I had a book in my backpack, I just spent the entire time reading. There was nothing better to do...

Yeah at work - had been to A&E for something and decided to take the lift to my floor (ICU) got in, pressed the button, the doors closed but the lift did'nt !! I was stuck - I tried to keep a level head (I don't like lifts I panic in them for some reason?) pressed the phone button and got a porter - I remember screaming at him (totally illogical) and eventually the works Dept opened the doors!! Work - Lifts never again!!

Got stuck once onboard a ferry. This was the same ferry that had a reputation for its elevators falling down... Big grin We called for help and 30 seconds later the doors opened, with the floor half a meter or so from the floor of the elevator. Just stepped out and went on our merry way.

Yes...

I was working in a hospital and was transferring a cardiac patient from ER to CCU, which was two floors up. The power went out following a lightning strike while we were in the elevator. Since they draw so much current, the elevators weren't connected to the emergency generator. The elevator did what it was programmed to do and slowly descended to the next floor. The doors opened very slowly to reveal a couple of very pregnant women walking around in hospital gowns. We were stuck in the OB department. That's where the cardiac patient was held until the power came back on.

Since the OB department wasn't equipped with CCU equipment, I stayed and cared for the patient for three hours using telemetry and portable CCU equipment.

I once got stuck on a ski lift. It was so cold and miserable and I was alone on the dumb thing. They couldn't get it to work so they had to lower everyone down with a harnest and a little seat thing. We were up there for about an hour and a half in the miserable Minnesota cold. Good experience looking back though  Smile

I got stuck on an elevator once at the Renaissance Dallas. The elevator just stopped between the 17th and 18th floors. Luckily, the power didn't go out, but it took about 20 minutes for someone to get the doors open on the 17th floor so that we could kneel down and jump a few feet to the 17th. I was a scared a little bit, but I think I would've freaked out if the power went out.

Yes, happened to me in Turkey. It was a panorama lift made of glass, I had a nice overview during the 15 minutes I was stuck.

I have never actually been stuck in a lift, however if I can recall any nightmares, they often involve being trapped in a lift, or being in a plummeting lift. Nasty stuff.

When the Oslo Plaza (now Radisson SAS) was built, the elevator had a tendency to stop often. It was an outside panoramic elevator going from the ground up to the 37th floor. GREAT view. It did get pretty hot in there though, from what I've heard, when it stopped and it took a few hours to get them out.

No but back in college I lived at the end of the hallway. The power just randomly went out in the building around 2300. There was a group of about 7 on one of the elevators, which stopped in between floors. I could hear them screaming and crying from 5 rooms down and they were about 3 floors above us. Happened 3-4 times Junior and Senior year that the power just gave out.
