I recently downloaded a movie that has DivX in its title but supposedly its .AVI format. When i open it with Windows Media Player, I can only hear the audio, no video. Why is this? I tried Quicktime but that doesn't work!

Go to http://www.download.com and search for Divx to get the codec so you can view the video. The reason you can hear the sound is that it is in MP3 format. Use something like Morpheus to get the video, just remember to say NO to all the spyware during the installation.

Well, there's the rub. This DivX thing isn't actually the format pushed by Circuit City, where the DivX discs could be played only once in a DVD player. This DivX thing is a totally different thing that delivers DVD-quality video, and you still need a PC.

You can get programs which will convert the DivX into MPEG-2 or MPEG-1....they take a lot of pissing around, and will take hours (and I mean HOURS) to convert, which will then let you convert into VCD which will then play on most DVD players.
