Stayed at the Omni, every room had a balcony with a view of the beach ...it was incredible
Remember that there is Cancun and the Riviera Maya, essentially anything south of Cancun. Beautiful place to visit, with many things to do, including visits to Pyramids, snorkeling, etc.
We came back from Playa del Carmen in late May, and we had a blast. Took the biggest room in the Gran Porto Hotel, with three balconies. Paid about $400/day, but that was for EVERYTHING, including meals, most drinks, mini-bar, etc. Look forward to going back soon, since both kids keep asking 'when are we going back to Cancun?'.

It seems that you had a great time!
My whole family lives there and it is absolutely great. Miss it so much (except for the humid hot weather).
The OMNI is not one of the newest hotels in CUN, though it is one of my favs. There is a great range of options, from the ultra-deluxe resorts to the modest downtown hotels. OMNI was for sure a great option!
Though it was a catastrophic event, Hurricane Wilma sort of cleansed Cancun both from what was getting old and bored and also from the lazy "non-grata" people (often foreigners) that look for an easy, careless life.
Quoting Garri767 (Reply 6): oh and we had GREAT IFE on american airlines the way there, The best T.V show i EVER saw! -
Sure it wasn't 3D? LOL
