I myself am not affiliated with any organized religion, but living in North America, the influence of certain religions is clear in every day life. I am not singling anyone out, but at issue are various forms of Christianity, because those are the ones influencing North American culture the most. Damn prudes.  Wink

Oh yeah, at times it may appear i'm talking about Catholics, well maybe I am, that particular church is in the spot light often and seem to have both influence, and common threads with other churches. I must note that I have nothing against individual members of any church, but rather the concept itself.

So let's say "God" (for the sake of argument) created people. Job well done I must say. As we all know, human procreation is quite unique in the animal world. We reproduce year round, yet we produce few offspring, pregnancy takes a long time, and human babies/children have a very long dependency period before they are ready to face the world on their own. Pretty sensitive and brittle process all in all.

So when God was designing all this, he clearly decided to make it foolproof, to ensure the survival of our species. Regular old animal sex wasn't going to cut it. So God did the following:

Clue #1. Give man and woman such wonderfully compatible sex organs.

Clue #2. Give man and woman urges to use their sex organs, in unison. Just in case they can't figure what a vagina and a penis are for.

Clue #3. Orgasms. God probably thought long and hard about this one. "Come on, surely the first 2 will get the message across - have sex, lots of it. Nah, can't leave anything to chance, I'm going to make this stuff airtight"

But then the church came along. They worship God, yet spit on his most obvious creation. God hard wired sex into each and every persons brain. Yet some dudes wrote some book and all of a sudden that takes precedence over God directly communicating with people. After seeing that, God no doubt is going to need an eternity of infinitely high priced counselling. "How do you fuck THAT up?!"

Way to go organized religion. How did they manage to make sex so taboo? And who the hell thought abstinence for clergy would be a good idea?!

Which brings me to homosexuality. I guess the church hates gays. Yet there's so many of them in the church, hmm I wonder why. Maybe it's because pretty much any animal that is denied contact with the opposite sex is going to move on to homosexuality. Non-Christian societies around the world have been practicing it for ages, not to mention many other species. And I'm pretty sure "monastery" means "Big gay orgy" in some ancient language.

Does one really need to wonder why there are so many weirdos and even complete nutjobs that affiliate themselves with different churches? Freud's theories about how energy is redirected from "inappropriate" impulses to other things applies fully, IMO. Why there's so much child abuse among clergy (and elsewhere too) is even more obvious.

The pathetic sex education that "religious" teens often receive is downright criminal too. Statistics show that teenage girls from a background such as that are the most likely to become pregnant and get STDs. Way to go organized religion.

In conclusion, can you imagine how much happier the world would be, if more people used common sense when it came to sex, instead of being guided by dumbfounding notions concocted by manipulative individuals ages ago?

One last disclaimer: this post is only semi-serious, but I think it IS something worth pondering. So take it easy... and have lots of great sex! Big grin

Monkeys do the same really..

I have always been led to belive that this was due beacause in olden times the church wasnt rich enought to support Priests with wife and kids.. Which - if I were to give $$ to the church id like it to go to other causes rather than to my Priest son's Playstation. (See evangelical pastors on TV)

I dont think the official stance of any church is to "hate" anyone. However followers tend to feel morally superior to others and its their indiviual stance that gets more attention. But - as Mel Gibson - has recently showed us - the higher you place yourself morally over other the bigger the fall.

Whatever happened to Humility?

Because people enjoyed it, and it wasn't there for enjoyment it was there for making little people... no fun intended.

And there were probably "we can't do it so you're sure as hell not going to enjoy it" sentiments coming from the celibacy.

And it was the original sin, so it's wrong anyway.

I used to always think that the biggest enemy to common sense and plain old reason is religion. The human body was designed for sex, yet religion tends to look down on it. The Catholic church has a way of making sex seem like a "necessary chore to bear offspring" than one of the pleasures of life.

And it's not just the Catholic church and Christians.

For me religion was a way for older generations and all our ancestors to put some control on people living in societies when law and education were not there.

That's why nowdays you have a large number of teen pregnancies and STDs. That's why Christianity always pushed for monogamy and abstinence. People have started disregarding religion without taking better care of themselves and being responsible without having someone enforcing it.

By the way, I am not religious at all but I think that the strictness of religion was making up for the stupidity and carelessness of people.

Most of this comes from people like you who push teenage girls to having sex if they "really care" for you. "it is showing true love". Load of crap. True love is being able to wait for the person you spend your life with. I know that when I get married its gona be a great gift that I give my wife that she will be my first and my last. Yes I am a proud virgin. The best gift I can give. My wife will not being getting left overs.

This whole thread is just off the wall! My opinion. (Read the word opinion!)

Good for you and your wife to be. If that is what you choose and what she chooses - then by all means go ahead and enjoy it!

However, if you look down on people who do not make the same choices you have.. what is that called?

Michelle? Is that you?

I kid, I kid. But seriously, you don't know me. As a matter of fact, I happen to think that a lot of teenagers are having sex before they should, and I've never pressured a girl to have sex.

Quoting QXatFAT (Reply 8):

Maybe. If that's what you want who am I to say otherwise. But the key there is "you want". It shouldn't be some pastor, or your family making your decisions for you.

Of course there's another question: how do you know this person is "the one"?

...and: what if the love of your life is not a virgin by the time you meet?

Quoting QXatFAT (Reply 8):

Again, that's cool. I just think people should be able to make an informed decision, be honest to themselves. Not be guided by someone else's quirks.

I've been joking for years that I was going to start my own church with new rules. I actually got the name of the church from a dear old friend 25 years ago. Seems that when he drank he became rather religious and stuff. So we called it "The Church of Jesus Christ of Unorganized Late Afternoon Drunken Saints". In my church sex is cool for those that chose that and we will do a single shot of Jack Daniels just after the pray service. So in this case sex and religion can be cool. Please pass the JD.

Amen reverend!

What's the rule again? 1 preacher and 3 followers officially makes you a religion? Just a couple more and you've got yourself a bonefide church. Think of all the tax savings!  Silly

If you throw in a mandatory 4 day weekend every week, and ammend the JD rule to read "any beverage that has an alcohol content that's obscenly high" (can't stand the taste of straight whiskey), then you may have yourself a follower!  Wink

Yeah, religion's views on sex are pretty much warped... Abstinence is not an answer, because no matter what, people are gonna try stuff, and if they haven't been educated sexually, they're less likely to use protection and more likely to contract STDs- AS THE STATISTICS SHOW!!!!

More than coincidence...

After 25 years in the works we still have yet to iron out the rules. I'm thinking to be a church we need to figure out how to make this a business. So the first thing is getting mail order stuff out there and a web site. We could always a be division of GodCo.com (another one of my older companies). I'm not sure that I want to be a Reverend, rather call me the "Grand Pooba". I'm all for the 4 day work week and any alcohol is perfectly fine, heck we might have draft beer available before the service. Now as far as sex goes, we need to be cool in Church and keep that a personal matter. I don't want someone messing up the seats. I had a thought for church building we could get us a old 747-200 and use that for our services. We also take credit cards. All I need is some nut from Hollywood to follow my cause and I'm in business.

I wonder, I keep hearing about these 'prude' Americans but have yet to encounter one. In high school and adulthood, I liked 'prude' girls because they always seemed to be much wilder than the wild girls themselves, if only in private.

As to the entire sex scene, w/o religion added on, IMHO, most people dont know how to enjoy it well. There is really very few tricks for this.

1) relax
2) concern yourself with pleasuring your partner (and viceversa)
3) EXPERIMENT!!!  biggrin  (Did a little experiment last night, the results were fantastic, and nothing kinky)

It is no small accident that the hierarchies of Judaism, Christianity and Islam are all entirely patriarchical. Men use myth and superstition to control women's ability to have sex and reproduce. Think about it.
