in their web pages i usually dont get to choose the exact brand of the car i'm gonna get. there is always "VW Golf or similar". so can any one tell me what i can do?

And does it make any difference to pic the car up in the airport or in any other places?

Thanx..

Hey, just a personal opinion, you could get a bigger more comfortable car
than the BMW 1 series for around the same price from some companies.
I found the 1 series to be cramped and uncomfortable, no ultimate driving
machine badge for this car!

No fan of the 1 Series here either...but it does up the ante in the small car market because it is the only offering that is rear wheel drive.

While we'll only get the 2 Series here in the States (the coupe), The M2 with 300hp will likely blow the doors off of anything by Audi or VW in that sector (price not withstanding...).

Personally, I think they are a little strange looking.

Which 99% of the people buying it have no interest in.

Very stange looking - apparently the new two door will look better.

Well the S3 is coming with a 265 BHP engine, but will then be followed by an Audi RS3 by all accounts - if that is anything like the RS4 then BMW will have some serious competition on its hands.

Not for the market they are entering...it makes a difference..at least here in the States. It's a fundamental selling point BMW will sell like hell...and likely do it successfully.

No sure how it could!

And I guess Audi will have some serious competition from BMW!

BMW's staple is on rear-drive coupes, sedans and convertibles; of course RWD is important to BMW buyers. That would be like saying quattro isn't important to buyers of Audi.

As said perhaps different in the states. Here in Europe, particularly the UK its a different story. the market is chaging and people are moving out of fords and GMs and into premium badge cars. Many buyers don't have a clue whats going on underneath, but its the quality product they want. It can be a poor drive but that wont matter if it has the right badge - the success of the BMW X3 proved that over here. - badge snobbery is a big thing here.

Most Audis sold over here are front wheel drive - although we all think of quattros.

Certainly a hot 1-series will have an appeal to the enthusiast, and its been two years and no sign of one yet, but the bulk of the 1-series sold are weedy 1.6 litre basic models that are badly underpowered. all the rear wheel drive appeal in the world won't make any difference to the drive in that case.

iIve driven a 1 and its not that amazing. throw in a complete lack of any room and some down market interior quality that is worse than i'd expect for a BMW and questionable looks and suddenly its the badge that has the appeal to many.
